i didnt see a post for this so here goes for what its worth.

9. Metro's proxy (i deleted the proxy no probs yet)

I deleted the proxy address and added the google dns dont know if it helps
But i havnt been kicked off while tethering in awhile.

Up top i put them in the order it shows in the app anycut,
The pic u see is 9th down on the lg hidden menu list.

So metro is sniffing our data packets? Does this happen even on WIFI? Does this override my router settings, somehow? How can you back up the proxy addy? (other than writing it down)

As I see it, this would be like the transparent proxies used in Thailand, Iran, Saudi, and other nations. Basically, they can control what you access and see everything you do unless you use TOR. If you remove this proxy, you don't need to use TOR unless Metro is not your problem. You can't hide from the NSA, but you can play hard to get. Nothing frustrates a snoop more when they work hard and find nothing significant to work with. If they want to spy on you, show them something that makes them unhappy but -- with no wrong doing on your part -- nothing is done.
 
I can't find the proxy. I have a completely different screen and I am on ZVD. WTF is going on?

btw don't remember how, but i didn't have to shortcut all of them-- just the first one(i think) yields all those options....
 
i went under mobile networks under hidden menu and an option came up thats unchecked, it says CDMA Subscribtion and under it it says change between RUIM/SIM and NV. what is this and should i check mark it?
 
Proxies are the same as default gateways / routers. With a few additional features. packet inspection, caching, user/pass sometimes, content filtering, throttling, Antivirus, logging, usually only for http traffic. It depends how it's configured, but I'd definitely disable it if it doesn't have negative effects. Tethering as mentioned above can be filtered out by a proxy by setting up a rule to block some http headers like the user agent string (os and browser info). It's often not used for all that though, since the caching part lessens the bandwidth required to serve the same website content to people by giving them a local copy instead.

Transparent proxies do all this without the client requiring settings at all since the default gateway may be a proxy itself.
 
Better than AnyCut is LauncherPro, it will give you all the "activities" with their own name, not like AnyCut which only say "LG Hidden Menu"" 12 times, Launcher Pro will give you all the 12 exact submenu names of "LG Hidden Menu"... Learn that since Optimus M more than a year ago.

Alright, I asked a serious question and I would like a serious answer if that is not too much to ask.

So let's get down to business; I ain't got no time to play around with isness. :D
 
I'm waiting on an answer too, Reilus. Don't do as I say, but I think you can just delete the dns addresses and IP address. I'm about to try that now after backing up the settings.
 
Ok, here's an update: after deleting the proxy settings, my phone could not get any data access at all. So I re entered the proxy settings but still no luck. I had to delete the primary and secondary dns addresses, go to the metro PCs hidden menu, go to lte configuration, do a setting initialization, which reboots the phone and changes all (in the hidden menus, it seems) settings back to factory defaults. After the reboot, the phones internet.returned to normal. But my pdanet tethered internet.connection did not. As a matter of fact, it didnt return at all. Idk what could've caused it, but now I'm regretting the decision and really need to find out why.
 
I uninstalled it through TB with no problems to anything my phones does...web, talk, or txt. But reading through this thread has me concerned, so I just restored it. But like reilus said, if they want to spy on us they can.
