So I called Sprint this morning and asked about the 4/16 update. He told me that he knows a guy who knows a guy who's cousin works for HTC and they are skipping 2.1.

The 4/16 date is an announcement that HTC is testing Gelato for the Hero.

He mentioned that we should get something from HTC around October.
