3) enable usb debugging via settings > applications > development
4) run the root.bat (it may be called root instead dont fret... its just windows) or if you are on mac/linux run the .sh

I have a quick noob question. Just ordered a prevail and this is my first smartphone. I'm going to update to GB right out of the box and then root it. When I root will I still have all the stock stuff on the the phone has like music player, contacts, home screen, etc...or will it just boot up and have nothing on it...kinda like a blank slate that needs everything put on it? Sorry for the noobieness, and yes I have tried to read a lot of forums questions already, but their is a lot of info out their.

If you do the "over the air" update to Gingerbread, and then run the One Click Root... everything stays. Nothing is lost or changed. You will just now see a "SuperUser" app in the app drawer.

Thank you very much. I remember reading about the super user app in another post, so I will do some more research about that. Thanks again:)

All this talk about rooting the phone, but what does the root do? Anything besides adding a superuser app? I don't want to uninstall anything; I don't care about that. Does it unlock the mobile hotspot option to have wireless devices connect to it?

Wireless hotspot is not internally funtional on our phones at this point. There is an app that you can download that allows you to make your phone into a hotspot , but you need root to use it.

Check here:

I don't know about you but I'll be darned if I want apps on my phone that I don't use . Not to mention the DREADED CIQ . :D

I can't seem to root. Any ideas?

I have not installed the samsung driver because I have never needed it Win7 x64 connects to the phone without it.

Do I need to install this driver??

It is seeing the phone, so it's not the drivers. the exploit isn't taking... You could just use Odin and install one of the pre-rooted images :)

Hey Shabby, since I'm always here in the Prevail area and not a member at ACS I just wanted to drop in here and extend you a huge thanks for your work with the Nexus S 4G.

Definitely noticed that the one click does not work for fa19 gingerbread. Guess they fixed that exploit... If I understand correctly, the exploits are through the bootloader right? Getting my new laptop pretty soon and setting it up for android build... Anticipation!

i tried root.bat i also tried kms 3.0 and 4.0 but still no luck to root my wifes phone.i rooted my phone which is the same one the samsung galaxy prevail. My phone was rooted her's was not.help please

I think the one of the new updates blocked the ability to root using this method. You can use this one though. Make a backup of all her stuff on the phone first though.

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...ock-factory-updated-02-23-new-fa19-image.html

This will put ClockWorkMod on the phone as well as root it. You can use Titanium Backup to backup the phone.

Ok guys i dont want to take anything away from interdpth but there is a new exploit that works on these phones and rather than posting it on page 3492834798 of the 34827649287 post where no one can see it, ill just lay it out here :)

1) download the zip
2) extract it to your desktop or downloads folder
3) enable usb debugging via settings > applications > development
4) run the root.bat (it may be called root instead dont fret... its just windows) or if you are on mac/linux run the .sh
5) PROFIT!!

http://goo.gl/S5wq7

this is using a new exploit thanks to bliss, there is no more stand on two legs and reboot and pray to the root gods that your fine etc.. this exploit works every time :)

again thanks to everyone who worked hard on all of this and while this may be a prettier nicer version of root dont forget it was interdpths hard work that got it in the first place
Hey guys, I've had my Prevail for a couple of months now and I loved it and bought one for my wife as well. I rooted both phones with no problem. I replaced my Prevail with the ZTE Warp and rooted it with no problems..., now..., I've still been keeping up with the additional tweeks for the Prevail so I can keep my wife's phone up to snuff but Boost has I guess patched the android system now they pushed down a new android version for the phone which is now version 2.3.6 instead of the 2.3.5, now I can't make any changes to my wife's phone. I tried to re-root with all the OCR's here in this forum and my command output is always the same (below is one example). Has anyone else had this issue and is there a work-around I can try? Also my old prevail has no problem rooting and I did a test on that one but it still has android version 2.3.5 I keep canceling the software upgrade push from boost when I'm prompted so I don't loose my root.

D:\programs\prevail new root oct 2011\Prevail Root Oct-2011\KMS>

If you read a couple posts above, it sounds like you updated to FA19. They made changes that cause the old methods of rooting to no longer work.
The easiest method is now to use Odin to load in the pre-rooted image of FA19. That is, until one of us gets the time to figure out where the hole got moved :)

Yeah they made it so you can't root it in that way. The only way to do so as of right now is using this. http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...ock-factory-updated-02-23-new-fa19-image.html

I've tried several times to run the batch file, but every time I get an error near the beginning after it says "getting temp root" it says "cannot create /data/local.prop: permission denied" after that it looks like all the other commands fail. I've factory reset my phone.

I'm running android 2.3.6 Samsung Replenish with Sprint network.
Baseband Version: S:M580.06 x.FA19
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.FA19

I'm tired of the lack of control I have over my Replenish.

Thanks for the help.
