Hi guys!

Snow_Fox

Android Expert
Went to at&t store today and they said they didn't have any but, are getting a truck before 4:30.

So with any luck (12:09 now)

I'll be a captivate user within a few hours :D

@sremick: I am well aware been waiting on this phone a long time.

@Ravenfox: I know :D

finally getting my first android.. I can't wait.

I wish I was more patient... but, oh well.. there are disadvantages to patients as well.

This is my second Android phone, plus my Girlfriend has one as well, definetly a good choice. So much better than the alternatives.

yep.

Suppose to be a lot of options coming up soon.

Sadly, I'm not in the market to wait.

This phone seems like a very solid choice. Luckily I am the type to get my hands dirty if something needs fixing.

Once you get the phone, 1st thing you should do is root and install one click lag fix.

Then you will have quandrant scores over 2000. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Not advised. The "lagfix" hack in OCLF is pretty outdated and dangerous. It's very easy to corrupt your device with the convoluted games it plays with your filesystem. Even the people at XDA (hacking enthusiasts) recommend not using it.

And due to the loopback method it uses, Quadrant scores with it are even more meaningless than they normally are. Like revving your car in neutral and thinking the high RPMs means you're going really fast.

See the Captivate FAQ:
Lagfix - CapFAQ

I was actually thinking about trying the phone stock for a while.

If I immediately notice a need I'll do it.

I have been paying attention to XDA so I am aware of whats going on.

One click is nice.. but, as I said I don't have any problems getting my hands dirty.

I'll probably give it a full charge first...

Then let it run all the way down rinse and repeat (not abusing it with robo defense or anything).

Just to get bat properly calibrated.

If I feel lagfix is absolutely needed, Its not a big deal.

If its not needed (I know a few people who haven't had any problems).

I prob won't worry about it.

I just can't wait to get it and start playing around with customization.

Lag is definitely a real problem, but it's a case where sometimes the pill can cause more harm than the disease. "One-click" doesn't mean "safe"... guns are one-click too and you can still blow your foot off. ;) A proper solution to lag involves a whole different ROM with ext4 baked-in, but ROM flashing/hacking is a whole 'nother ball of wax...

hehe nice analogy there.. guns are one-click for sure or in the case of glocks, a light one-click is all it takes.. ;)

XDA actually recommends a different lag fix.

I think I'll read up on the pros and cons of voodoo vs it before I make a decision as to which lagfix I use.

And while it may be a real problem, I'm gunna decide how much it bugs me before I go crazy and start toying with code.

Being a comp sci major.. I can say.. all it takes is one screw up.. and even if your not SOL.. your spending a lot of time looking for a solution to your failed solution..

I am probably never even gunna check quadrant. If the phone works. great, if not I don't need a program to judge my happiness of the phone for me.

I just have no problems should I need to rooting to get what I want. ;)

If I don't get what I want, I'll take it by force.

I have always run the "Official" releases that came with my phone, and I haven't run into too much Lag. In fact, I noticed that my friends that have iPhones seem to be more laggy than even my old HTC magic was, even after the 2.1 w/ Sense update came. 1.5 was a little bit slower I found, but once they put it up to 2.1, I never had a problem.

So.. Got the call at 5 today the store finally got one in.

9:00 A.M. tomorrow I will have a captivate if all goes well!

(at&t let me upgrade early to a flight and when I brought it back, it put my update back to feb.. however, I don't see why they wouldn't let me do it at the time.. Can just say didn't have money at the time..)

I hate when members post post things like this but I am going to do it anyway.

We have two captivates in our house that purchased about three months apart and neither one of them has any lag problem what so ever. Neither one has had a random shutdown. My wifes deletes her email account on a weekly basis and both have gps problems.

Both are stock and not been rooted.

Now back to some black ops...
