Lurker
well ive been long time lurker... i always hate posting on new boards with questions that ppl have asked a million times.. and die hard product users... get tired of answering the same questions... well i signed up last just to post a thank you for all the help... now i cant post the link... i was having those major issues with krazy amounts of data usage and battery use... i tried everything.. shutting off syncing options.. the only thing that would totally stop is shutting off packet data... which imo i should not hafta shut off my data jus so... androids default apps can stop sucking the life outta my phone... i also used a few different apps trying to pin point the usage problem... onava.... 3gbulldog ... etc... they all seem to point to direct android default apps... finally through some serious research finally nipped it... i went from using 100 megs a day to well nothing less... i do somthing myself.. which again in my opinion... this is how it should b.. not while your phone sits idle......
called Droidwall.. basically a firewall for your phone and you select what can use packet data.. or wifi... oviously who cares wifi... through your home network... means nothing... but packet data get blow up quick ..

so maybe someone will see this and use it... so again thanks... because without lurking on this phone never would have fix my issue

cheers

Welcome!

Glad you found a solution. Out of interest, and to possibly help others with a similar problem, which app(s) were responsible for such large data consumption?

well from what i saw the normal culprits were email contact syncing stuff like that.. but the most perplexing thing was... most of the usage programs i used would jus say Android OS for what program and it was constantly using data like i could sit there and watch the numbers rise by the minute... like i was watching it... around midnight and it was going up maybe a meg/minute... after i started using doidwall to stop everything from syncing running and basically using data less i told it too... well lets jus say ive had it running for 2 days now and ive used.... 2 megs which was jus checking email and lurking on facebook lol....
so if thats any indication.. im jus wondering if its perhaps my personal carrier not the phone... cuz ive read topics over the internet not on here about Bell Canada... have there own software running on there phones that are locked to there network dont know any positive truth to that...
