Hello Phases,

I think the people in the Galaxy Nexus forum that don't like the off topic chatter are in the minority...and while it was a good idea to try and hide that chatter (and I completely respect and appreciate what was trying to be accomplished), I think a lot of us have realized that it makes the thread less enjoyable to the end-user (those of us in the majority). It's much harder to scroll/read (especially on the mobile app for Android)...if you're looking for important info...then look for the posts with a lot of thanks. Any chance we can go back to the lounge format for the last week of that thread Phases?

And of course, I respect what ever decision you make, I just thought it was worth asking...I'm hearing complaining on both sides, so I understand it's not an easy decision to make...but I really enjoyed the "community" feeling that the lounge type thread brought to that specific group of people...now I don't even bother clicking "show"...too many to click "show" on. I think that OP holding all major info should be good enough. Thanks again, I know you can never please everyone!

I believe that the idea of the hide tags for offtopic comments was good in theory. In practice though, the hide tags have become a cumbersome practice. I now have to go through threads clicking every single hide tag just to understand what is going on. This is especially true in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release thread, where information is slow to come so it is full of off topic chatter.

Thank you Phases.

Another vote for the ending the excessive hide button use in the GNex thread! I find that the hide tags actually make it MORE annoying. Without a hide tag, i could scan posts for info and decide whether i wanted to read them or not. With all the information hidden, i must click "show" on every single reply without having any idea if i truly want to read it or not. The "fun" we're allowed to have in the threads here are why i love AF. I am a member of several android related forums, but this is the only one i visit for the "community" aspect.

Please count me in with those who think that the hide tag kills the flow of the thread.

If we are lucky, there is just a week or so left in the life of the thread. Please consider removing the hide tag requirement in the pre release thread.

I think it is better to have happy participants than happy lurkers.

Yep. The hide feature does nothing to reduce the number of posts, the content posted, or even the bytes required for storage of said posts on the AF servers.

Perhaps we should post a poll and get the input of everyone involved..

Course, on the other hand, with any luck that thread will be closed soon! ;)

Keep the feedback coming!

That sounds like a good idea...and YES, we're all hoping the tread closes soon! Although it will be bitter-sweet...sweet with Nexus glory and bitter with the loss of the awesome chatter of like-minded people!

Hi guys, I'm with the folks that feel the requirement of using Hide for OT chatter in the Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release thread really detracts from the friendly, community, shoot-the-breeze intended feel of the thread. I was a long-time admin for a gaming forum so I am well-aware that it is impossible to please everyone - I honestly don't envy your position one bit. I just wanted to make my opinion known that I would like to see the Hide rule lifted.

I honestly appreciate all you guys do for this community. Like I said above, I've been on the other side and I know how difficult it can be, especially for the pay that's involved. :D Thanks for listening!

Well said!

I like the idea of a poll, consider me a pro-democracy person!

I too am not enjoying the hide tags for off topic posts in the GNex pre-release forum. It does break the flow and is also unwieldy when a touchscreen is involved. For some reason on my Transformer it can take several presses to get the tag to respond.

The rule on that thread has been OP contains pertanent information and the rest is prone to OT conversation. That has been made perfectly clear. It worked well for three months, will another week of the Wild West matter?

Yes please. While I can understand how some people got upset about the OT talk it always seemed to stem from a bit of a misunderstanding that it's a 'lounge' type thread where some OT will be tolerated (and also quite a bit of frustration on the ever-moving release date with little official word from Verizon on the release of the GNex). If you read the thread from the beginning, you really see a nifty little community of people sprouting up and gathering. I know it was that sense of community that prompted me to create my account and post. Quite frankly, I post less nowadays because of the more OT nature of the thread. There's only so many ways to reiterate the info we have on the phone at the moment.

That being said, big thanks go to the mods on the thread, Steven, Early and OTD.. they've truly done a marvelous job of helping to turn the group posting there into a community having a conversation than a dry thread listing specs for a phone.

I agree, it was an interesting thought, but for me it slowed things down, and I found myself working more today! :D

I agree. How about a compromise and we just hide OT pictures?

i could live with that compromise... however, i still don't understand making the hide thing a new policy after 50,000 posts. the OP still states:

Go into this thread knowing how large it is. Know that it is not all completely on topic. The OP, Steven58, will make a best effort attempt at keeping THIS top post as up to date as possible on current news on the device. This thread is sort of a lounge-news type thing and off-topic talk is acceptable so long as THIS POST contains all the important information on the thread.

pertinent info in post #1, off topic is fair game after that. in case no one has noticed this thread has slowed down considerably since the implementation of the hide tags. i fully believe this is because most people aren't clicking them, and therefore aren't contributing unless they have "useful" info. while this may be preferable to some, i miss the fun OT posts, and the lurkers they drew out.

again, just my opinion (and it has been voiced in the Suggestions forum), but i miss the light-hearted, free-for-all days of the GNex pre-release thread. :(

I do too. And I know a lot of us are on the app which is a huge gigantic massive pain to do hides on. I agree with off topic pics needing hides. And I'll put my suggestion in as soon as I'm not relying on the app

I agree. Please let us have our banter-ridden thread back :D
