So I made a big booboo and dropped my phone in the toliet today.. I was able to get with in a couple a seconds and pull the battery. I let it dry for about 4 hours and everything seemed to be dry, not even the wet indictators changed. I installed the battery and everything was working great but after about an hour of use I saw condensation form under the screen. I pulled the battery out again and let dry for another 2 hours before I installed the battery again but this time no screen. Everything powered up fine and if I know where to press the screen I can access the app but the screen is bland.

Any chance of recovery or to I give it a proper funneral?

4 hours is not enough to fully dry a device. It takes days at typical ambient temps. With very low heat you can reduce the drying time.

Well, powering up the device before it's fully dried definitely reduces the odds being in your favor.

My wife washed my bluetooth a few months ago, and it was fully submerged in the water for at least 5 minutes on spin cycle. I pulled out the bluetooth, promptly turned it off, and stuck it into a bag of rice for like 5 days, it has worked the same ever since. If you get something wet like that, i would towl dry it best i could, dissassemble it as much as you can, and try to shake an sling all the water you can out of it, then bag it in rice for at least 5 days, and i would give it 7 to be safe.

PS: I hope there wasn't a bruiser in the bowl when you dropped it!

LoL, No it was a clean bowl. I tried to fire up my phone again yesterday and it showed signs of screen life but it was shortly lived. The backlight comes on when starting in the hard keys light up but there is no screen just black.

Search the videos over at Cnet, they had a nice one about how to dry a wet device. I think there's actually these bags (lined with silica I believe) that you can buy. But I agree with everyone else, give it a couple days before you try messing with it.

water indicators didn't change? screw it, call VZW tell them the screen stopped working and just get a new one and be done with it.

LoL, if I was with VZW you can bet I would have done that, but I use a wireless service called Pageplus.

Anyways I gave up and bought another droid so I am back in the game.

I thought of listing it on ebay so someone else can do a warrenty swap or use it for parts since it is an excellent condition except for the screen. Any thoughts.

The water damage indicator that's above the battery compartment isn't the only one in the device. There are I believe 2 (possibly 3) other indicators within the device that Verizon would find when they go to refurbish the phone, and I'm thinking they almost definitely got wet.

I've taken the phone completely apart and I only saw the 1 water damage indicator. Now maybe I over looked the others since thats not what I was in there for but I'm pretty sure there is the 1 on the phone and 1 on the battery, thats it.

I read somewhere that there are indicators in the phone that you have to void your warranty to get to. Of course, never take anything you've read on the internet at face value, but yeah...

considering that water indicator sticker being red voids the warranty...taking the phone apart to swap them is a moot point...
you would have to remove the two plastic covers (one thats surrounding the camera lens and runs full width of the phone, one this one right above that), the speaker grill and finally the entire back of the phone to get the water damage indicator sticker off.

I was arguing that perhaps the water damage indicators haven't been set off, so there's still a very small chance he has his warranty, but by opening it to check them, he's eliminating that possibility. And I seriously doubt it's possible to open it up, swap the water indicators, and then somehow make it seem like you never broke the warranty void seal.

All in all, the phone's only good for parts by now, so yeah, I guess opening it up is no big loss.

ooohhhhh, gotcha.

this of course leads to a new question.... there is a void sticker? Looking at the back of my phone now and not seeing one. Maybe because I'm looking at a refurb?
