Hockey fans unite!!! {the All Things Hockey Thread}

I'm a Habs fan, but I was embarrassed to see Plekanec embellishing non-existent penalties. When he got busted in that last gm, I felt karma sneaking up to bite him in his/their arse. I am also a Rangers fan (minus Carcillo). I am impressed by Vigneault & what he's done this yr. I love Hagelin, Kreider, McDonaugh, St. Louis, but I think Lundqvist is crackable & that scares me. Then there's the ex-Ranger, Gaborik who is on fire for LA. He may dismantle Lundqvist single handedly. I'm still pulling for NYR, but won't be broken hearted if LA takes the cup

the L.A.KINGS are the only talk in town, besides the L.A.Lakers coaching hunt and the Clipper's Donald Sterling.

We could be taking Dodgers but they aren't doing as well plus many here can't even watch them.

I have never seen so many L.A.people out and about representing the L.A.Kings. it seems there are more fans now then two years ago........it is amazing.

........and guess who is going to game 2 this Saturday?

i could GO for some wings as well.....and a beer:beer:

Taking dives and embellishing are what I hate the most in any sport. I'm glad the officials spotted it and made him pay. The ref who made the call should have gotten the third star of the game. Officiating is a tough and thankless job. Whether you make the right or wrong call, half of the fans, players and coaches will hate you for it. The officials deserves kudos for making this call.

wow........just truly amazing on what the Kings accomplished this year.

here are some numbers for you:
  • they are one of 4 teams to be down 0-3 and comeback to win the series.
  • they are the first to win 3 game 7's on the road in one playoff season.
  • they are the first to win 3 consecutive games while being down 2 goals (game7 vs Chicago, game 1 and 2 vs New York).
  • they are 7-0 in elimination games.
  • they have played 64 playoff games since 2012.....an NHL record
  • they are tied with Calgary and Flyers for playing 26 playoff games in one season.

i cannot remember a playoff run like this from any team sport except maybe the 2004 Boston Redsox World Series. to me not even the Lakers' Showtime era or Kobe and Shaq's runs for the championship rings were never like this.

these guys had to dig waaaaaay down when they were 0-3 to the San Jose Sharks. They had a 2-1 lead over Anaheim which took them to game 7 to finally win that series. they were up 3-0 to Chicago who tied the series up to force a game 7. it took an overtime win to clinch the series.

the Cup Final was fantastic, even though we won it in 5 games. four of the five games went to overtime and two of those went to double overtime!!!!!!! just goes to show you how well matched both teams were.....kudos goes to New York which led in the series 64% of the time, while the Kings led for only 36%

i really had my doubts when the team was down 0-3 in that first round. but as soon we forced a game 7, started feeling confident that this team can pull it off. once we won that series i was a believer in that this team when under extreme pressure can perform to the highest level.

what a year and what a playoff season the Kings had.......thank you Kings for letting me be taken on your magical run for the Cup.....i hope we do this again next year.

GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'll end this post with a great song from Aerosmith:

so i thought that LA mayor Garcetti was great at our rally. he has gotten my vote.

so this is the uncensored clip so be prepared this is NSFW:

and then later on that day New York's mayor sang "I Love LA":

and just keep you guys entertained during the off season while your teams try and upgrade thru the draft and signing UFA's.....i give you 14 minutes of pissed off goaltenders:

:D:D:D:D

Does it show Luongo's reaction when he found out he wasn't playing in the Heritage Classic?

ocnbrze, what do you think of the big deal the Blues made recently?

getting paul stasny was a great pickup, but letting miller go leaves me doubting on your goaltending situation. brian elliot and allen (i think) is ok, but miller and elliot would have been a better tandem i think.

and next year, i believe, it is going to be a four way race to the top of the western division with chicago, anaheim, st louis, and the kings. it is going to be a very fun 2014-2015 season.....i'm already planning on which games i'm going to attend.

i also forgot to mention that now that the dallas stars have spezza and alex hemsky, they will be someone to keep an eye out as well. they had a pretty good offseason. with tyler seguin and now spezza, they have two pretty good centers running two lines.

i can't believe how loaded the west is!!!!!!!!

Go wings? :)

Lol you need to come up with something new to say.........but I hate to say it, but with all the movement the west had made during free agency, the wings are not going any where. They are bringing back pretty much the same team as last year......I will say this, they will be at least healthier.....So who knows where that will lead them.

But with the ducks picking up, heatly today.......it is hard for teams to compete.......though I'm not so sure heatly is the same player he was a few years ago.

I'm just glad that we do not have to play against him any more.

Him and Kesler. You have to play against Miller now. Not sure of the team in front of him. I'll reserve judgement until I see how they perform on the ice.

At least the Wings are no longer in the west.

Several years ago, one of the local sportscasters joked that the Canucks are petitioning to be moved into the eastern conference because they had some rediculous record against eastern teams. They were like .800 at the time.

Yeah but for a while e KINGS battled with loungo that I really hate the guy.......glad he is gone.

Plus the nucks are on a downward trend

It is interesting on how most of the free agents moved from the east to the west.

Wings are a young team .. Bunch of newbies .. Give em just a little time .. Then Stanly will come home where he belongs :p

not if the Kings have anything to say about it. we have the core guys signed for the next 3-4 years....except for Kopitar whose contract ends in 2016.....you can bet that the Kings will offer an early contract extension and a pretty good raise in salary for Kopi.....i'm thinking along the lines of what toews and kane just received today (10 mil a peice for 8 years!!!!)

The latest odds has the Canucks a 28 to 1 chance of winning the Cup next year.

It seems once the first domino falls, it started a cascade effect. Once one team starts signing guys, everyone else has to match or fall behind.

I'm just glad that we got something decent for Kesler. That trade got a better return than when Gillis traded both Luongo and Schneider. I'm glad that Benning isn't afraid to trade within the conference or division. I think that was a bad mentality that Gillis (and a number of other GM's) had. Why eliminate half the market? It just lowers your return value.

ok so i really am starting to hate this east coast bias.....with the release of the nbc nhl scheduled coverage, the kings will get 13 appearances which by itself is not bad. but, only one of those games will be on nbc appearing nationally. while the other 12 games will appear on nbcsn.

you would think that with the stanley cup winners would come with more national exposure.......to some degree yes. but the nbcsn does not draw a whole lot of viewers.

and to make it worse they will be using the nbc nhl broadcasters and not the kings which would be fine, but many of them are just way to east coast biased. their coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs and finals were nuts. maybe it is because these guys can't stay up late to watch us, but i hope next year we get more love then what has been shown so far.

the worst part is that Bob Miller (future broadcasting hall of fame'r) and Jim Fox are getting snubbed by not announcing the banner raising game (first home game for the kings). Bob Miller will probably mc the event, but he will not be calling the game:(

Wow, maybe it's because the Bruins own 25% of NESN, their broadcast partner (the Red Sox own the other 75%) on nationally televised games it is on both networks. I completely agree about national commentators for both Hockey and Baseball. I'd rather mute the tv and listen to the radio guys do it.

i do that anyways.....Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans are great.....but our icon is Bob Miller who have been there with the Kings almost from the beginning.....and he at least deserves the right to call the Cup finals games.

one great thing that the LA Kings have done is that on the blu-ray coming out (which i have already ordered) Bob Miller and Jim Fox have recorded their call of the Cup finals.....looking forward to hear that.

but it was sort of pathetic that thruout the playoffs there were only a few props given toward the Kings. they were all saying what was wrong with Chicago or NY and not how well the Kings were playing.......it was such a joke.

when we were up against anahiem, they had one of the duck's announcers do the game.......what was up with that? shame on you nbc!!!!!!!

this is not the Cup final, but Nick Nickson's call is so amazing....i get goose bumps just listening to it:

"REMARKABLE.....INCREDIBLE....UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!"

AMAZING!!!!!!!!
