Hockey fans unite!!! {the All Things Hockey Thread}

so today the media got a chance to step on the ice at Dodger Stadium.

here is a view from the kings beat writer jon rosen:

it is this saturday........thank god the team is coming back to LA.....we did not have a great Grammy roadtrip....going 1-2-1 losing the last two.....hopefully we can beat the ducks twice......once at honda center(duck's stadium) on thurs and then play them again at Dodger Stadium......looks like it should be a fun either way.

GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!
Should be a really awesome game to watch. Hope that I will manage to watch it.

The Blues made a blockbuster trade. Is this a good deal? I really don't know much about the players involved but I thought the original goaltender for STL was pretty good.

not sure how i feel about this trade.......miller has not been playing very well, but that could also be because he is minding the net for a crappy team that can't play defense........steve ot is sort of like dustin brown of the kings.....they play a similar game......and that is very physical.

miller does bring playoff experience and might play a lot better as st louis is a much better team......and ot brings some leadership to a young team and will definitely help them thru the playoffs.

anyways, my team the LA Kings are off to a great start after the Olympic break......this should be a fun 20 or so games left.....i just hope we do not face the blues again in the playoffs as they more dangerous now then the last few years we faced them.

GO KINGS GO!!!!

This past weekend, Vancouver hosted the only outdoor NHL game that was played indoors. I called it. It rained and the roof remained closed. It was actually snowing earlier in the morning and overnight, but it turned to rain by mid morning.

speaking of vancouver....i guess they are calling it quits this year by trading luongo........thank god he is no longer in the west.

curious to see what else will go down this coming trade deadline.

Lack has been playing very well as of late. Luongo pretty much lost his starting job last season. It's just that his contract and low cap made him very difficult to move at last year's deadline and off season. Luongo didn't even start in the Heritage Classic. Lack did. Lack had really great numbers this season. It's just that the players in front of him can't score.

I think everyone here was expecting Kesler to be traded. That didn't happen. Also, Gillis seemed to be unwilling (or perhaps unable to) trade any of our top defensemen. I'm not exactly sure what the plan is right now. Gillis seems to be in limbo or perhaps just waiting for better opportunities in the off season.

With the way the Canucks have been playing lately and losing some key forwards, I don't see their making the playoffs this year. They can defend well as is indicated by their goals against, but they haven't been able to score. They can't even score in the shoot-out.

I personally wrote off this season months ago. I think they gave up the lead in the last 5 minutes of a game several times already and lost. For whatever reason, they cannot hold onto the lead. Even up 2-0 earlier this week, they still lost. The most disturbing thing is that they're consistently blowing leads. I don't think any other team blew more leads this year than the Canucks.

It seems the Canucks have been in a slow transition since last year. The coaching change and their attempt to move Luongo was the start of it. I liked Vigneault and I didn't feel we needed the change there. I would have preferred to keep Vigneault. I thought he did well through the years in Vancouver, but he didn't have the players to get the job done any more. Tortorella hasn't done any better and in fact has done worse, although he's had more injuries this year. Still, I just don't think the players fit with the type of team he wants or vice versa. The Sedins have been horrible and their production has dropped off significantly. I really think that the Sedins just aren't the right players for Tortorella. It's going to be a major change before I feel the Canucks become a contender again. I think the major changes will take some time.

we got Marian Gaborik!!!!!!!! oh wait.....hmmmmm.......not sure how i feel about to be honest.

at first i was excited, but then given how healthy this guy can't seem to be, i'm not so sure. if he can stay healthy going forward and score then it is a great move by Dean Lombardi.

we also gave away some prospects, but we got a young defenseman and 2 2nd round draft picks. overall i give the Kings an A in getting the most out of the trade deadline.

anyone else happy with what their team did?

really? that is all you have to say? nothing creative?

plus didn'tt they just lost to the rangers?:p

if anything.....it is GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!

as of this post we are beating the oilers 3-1 in the second period........this would be 7 straight games, 6 since the Olympic break......looks like all we needed was some much needed rest......while our skills guys had a change of scenery at Sochi.

GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!

Wings got Legwand, that's what we needed with 4 main centers out. Also, at the enf of the season Legwand will become UFA and we won't need to put him under the cap for the next season. So in the current situation it's a pretty good deal. And from what I've seen in the first three games (well, except the one against Rangers) I like the way he plays.

Man I wish Peverly was still on the Bruins.:(
Anyway, I thought my fellow hockey fans would enjoy this.

I love his coaches reaction when he called him a "typical hockey player" when Peverly asked his coach to be out back in......I think hockey players are one of the toughest athletes out there.

It was crazy how he collapsed and then they ended up postponing the game.

As someone who plays hockey at the rec league level, I personally wouldn't request to continue playing immediately after being revived after suffering a cardiac issue. I think that would be a little extreme. However, I do try to leave the playing surface under my own power if I sustain an injury. I have been able to do so every time except twice.

For cramps, it is definitely easier to leave the playing surface on skates than on foot. If I have a cramp playing ball hockey (on foot), I would probably just treat the cramp immediately. If it's not that serious of a cramp, I may just try to limp off. Generally, I prefer just to treat the cramp right away rather that wait to get off the playing surface. Cramps aren't really serious injuries. They just hurt and I'd rather be treated immediately rather than wait to get moved off the playing surface.

Didn't they get their @sses kicked last Sunday by their arch-rivals, the 2013 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks? :hahaha:

They did just beat Sidney Crosby, so kudos to the wings.......just glad they are not in the western conference any more.

One thing I hate is when the wings are in town.......half of staples center is filed with wings fans........crazy to see so much red in staples.

lol you are right....it is at least 60% full of wings fans.

but i will say this, those transplant fans are nice and i have yet to see any conflicts.......for years they could have gloated when my Kings were bad, but they never did.....just cheered on their team.

Looks at that standings, smiled approvingly.:D

Yep and thanx to your team beating Phoenix. they were creeping up on us in the standings.......their loss and our win makes them less of a threat.

I love this time of year where every win has more meaning.......whether it is for position in the playoffs or just trying to get in.........wins are important.
