I've turned off everything. Except for a few like contacts sync, etc.
My latest screenshot is this....
And I still have no clue where the data. Leak is occurring. Does contacts synch consume high data?

Lost 5 min. of life. I know everything that but you can't restrict Android system data at background and only he is make big data sometimes over 700Mb at day.

Okay this seemed to have worked.
Notice the above screenshot. This is Google settings.
At the top right corner, if you click on more settings you should see, "usage and diagnostics" tap on it and disable it.

And the result was this...

And today...

Hello. My name is Mottie. I'm from Japan.

I'm having same problem, Android OS is constantly consuming data in background... (my version is 4.4.2)

In my case, it's eating up constantly 5 mb a day so far. I force stopped everything I could, but still no improvement. Cut all the syncs I could also...

I searched the web, and I landed here...

If anyone could find the root cause of this and fix for this, I really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance,
Mottie

It just crossed my mind...

Is it possible that AndroidOS is trying to do OS upgrade on its own?

My phone does have upgrade to 5.1.something, and when that was released via my provider, it was consuming packets under 'OS upgrade,' so, I disabled that one.

I also read somewhere (maybe earlier on this thread?) that if upgrade is available and something isn't cooperative, it eats up the data...

But then, newer versions of AndroidOS seem to have similar to this problem... I'm lost...

For almost last month use data trough my android os but this happening when i start to use data trough network, before that nothing or almost minimum os android data use.

HOLY SMOLLY! I thought consuming 1mb an hour was bad, but almost 17GB a month? That's outrageous!

Do you think it might got something to do the phone maker and their pre-installed apps? I use SHARP, I know it's not worldwide phone, but it just came to my mind again...

I disabled all the possible apps related to Google. Only thing I can't disconnect from Google is Google Playstore.

I asked in a form in Japanese, and all they tell me is 'upgrade the OS,' which I'm not really willing... New stuff doesn't necessary guarantee 'better.' I mean, I learned this kind of problem exist in newer versions, so, what's the point of upgrading and face the same problem?

I don't know this will help, but...

I called my carrier and asked about why AndroidOS is consuming a lot of data in background. Their answer was "AndroidOS is programmed to do that, and as a carrier, to be honest, we don't know the whole thing about AndroidOS."

Well, that was nice to know that my carrier doesn't know whole thing about AndroidOS while they make pre-installed apps for it...

But then, why many people don't have this problem if it is 'supposed to be' like that? Doesn't make sense to me...

Also use Android 4.4.2. on LG G2 and don't have line in google settings "usage and diagnostics". Next solution.
I found that Google Setting on 4.4.2!

Drag down the screen and it's there !(I'm using safe mode at the moment)

But unfortunately, my setting was already off on what kind rott told us...

And interestingly, after I rebooted it in safe mode, Google Play Store shooted up in data usage...
