Use that to find the hidden setting for content adaptive backlight - and turn it off.
Then turn off auto brightness and control it from the notification pull down.
With those settings I think you'll find the colors muted in bright sunlight (as opposed to gone) but the contrast good enough to get the basics alright for most viewing angles.
PS - I live at over a mile elevation in the desert so I'm very picky about screen brightness.
