Honor 5X AMA (ask me anything)

They are very committed. They just recenently asked for volunteer owners of the 5X to help test the Android M update, and they hired a big wig from Apple to head up a US based design team to better tailor their products to the US market.

Coming from a Moto G and Blu Life One X (both of which run stock Android), how is the UI on the Honor 5X? I know it's basically a clone of iOS, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing right? (many people love iPhones)
It's ok for casual users. It's actually pretty featureful and generally friendly. More so than an iPhone.

If you like the performance of stock Android, EMUI sucks and you'll want to unlock the bootloader (easy), install TWRP (easy) and flash CM or any of the upcoming roms being worked on behind the scenes.

Or run the mods to debloat it and remove swap (mine), at the very least.

Well I don't care about hacking my phone. I'm buying it for games, calling, and texting. I don't care about tinkering with my electronic devices, if it works well then that's all I care about.

And I have no idea what any of that bootloader TWRP stuff is. These are just phones, not PC's.

Also, if the software isn't regular Android, shouldn't people be hating on these Huawei/Honor phones? Instead I see nothing but praise.

Many manufacturers (Samsung, LG, HTC, Huawei, etc) put their own skin over Android to make it look and feel special. Some even bring handy extra features and options that are lacking in stock Android. It's not an inherently bad thing, and is really one of the strengths of the Android platform.

My personal preference is generally for stock Android (like is present on the Nexus line of devices), but I do welcome some of the features that get added by the OEMs.

Does it feel pretty snappy, slowed down any over the weeks?

I can go ahead an answer that, I first bought mine as a preorder (which I guess somehow gives me entitlement to answer this). I've had it for some months now, and I have no extra sd cards in or anything, but I have basically maxed out my storage and use it very heavily. Sometimes when I use chrome and go to images, the scroll is not responsive, and sometimes more intense apps crash. Given that it isn't a top of the line processor, I expect these sort of things, but they're usually not too bad. All in all, it's treated me amazingly, and I expect to keep it for a few years.

I've been using the Honor 5X for a couple weeks now as a tester for Huawei. I'm not the best at writing out comprehensive reviews that touch on all the features, but I'll do my best to answer your questions on this exciting new phone.

So go ahead, as me anything.:)
Just got my phone. For the life of me I cannot find where I can change the screen time out. It shuts of in about 30 seconds, I like it to stay on a little longer, but cannot fine it. I usually don't have this issue, lol Thanks

I'm on a test build and the settings have been completely rearranged. :goofydroid:

Settings / display / sleep
^^^that sounds right.

How does this phone compare to the Zenfone Laser?

Also, can you use the SD card as default storage?
I don't have a frame of reference for the Zenfone, so I don't have anything to offer there. There is a setting for using the SD Card as default.

I know I have the "notifications turn on lock screen" setting on but I simply cannot find where it is! And on a side note whatsapp notifications don't turn on the lock screen.

Trying to figure out what is up with my galleries folder. When I open the folder I not only see the photos that I have taken, I see a generic icon for every image file that this phone uses. There are hundreds of them. You cannot click on them and see anything as it says there are no thumbnails. Also, my photos have duplicates of every one of them. This is driving me crazy. Please elph. See how crazy its making me. Thanks in advance.

I recently got an Honor 5X and I like it a lot. Battery time in particular, which is primarily why I chose it. Everything works as expected and performance is fine, but there's just one single thing I've not been able to find an answer to:

I've got the official case, with a window which shows time, incoming calls and notifications on part of the screen without flipping the case open. I've changed the wallpaper on the home screen and lock screen, but I can't for the life of me find out how to change the wallpaper on this "notification screen" (no idea what it's actually called). I assumed it would change to the lock screen backdrop, but no deal.

Does anybody know if it can in fact be changed and if so, how?

How do I set up a hotspot on my 5x. I don't see it in settings. I have an ATT mobile share account.

In settings goto ... More in the wireless and networks section (top section of settings) and you will see the Tethering and portable hotspot menu there.

Got my new KIW-CL00, liked it a lot. But when I add my own active T-Mobile SIM card to the phone, I got an error message "SIM unknown (or un-provisioned)" in Chinese on top left corner. What's wrong? Is the phone locked?

It worked fine with WIFI.

Help Please :(

I bought a honor 5x 2 days ago after watching all the reviews about the good battery life and overall performance. when i got the phone, the battery start draining. so i turned off the 4g to 2g low brightness, all application closed , gravity sensor off almost i did everything. still after that by just using the wifi was killing the battery. used it for 15-20 min with wifi - opened chrome and whatsapp same old settings , battery went from 100% to 74%.

Closed all the apps, still the phone was literally hot i could feel it in my pocket, gave the temperature of 40 degrees without any open app + battery went from 70% to 30%(Without using any app, ram cleared + did it again with the cleaner)

Today just used the instagram for like an hour, went from to 88% to 29%.
is it normal guys ? or should i ask for a replacement ?
