Help Horrible Lag when 4G is ON

I used to take this approach, but have decided to actually get active. Don't waste time in this forum looking for answers. CALL SPRINT and create a ticket. This is the only way we'll get resolution.

I did this just yesterday, and the first step should be a factory reset of your data profile (not a factory reset of the phone). That's what they did for me as step one, then the lady told me that the ticket would be tagged as unresolved as I told her this lag issue usually takes more than a day to manifest after a reboot.

They will have you power down and remove battery for 2 minutes. Then once back on, you dial ##3282# and then enter edit mode. Edit mode requires your MSL password. I would write this down as the agent gives it to you. It's nice to have if you don't already have it.

Then you go to Data Profile / Menu / Restore. DON'T DO THIS unless you are told to by Sprint, or you know what you are doing. I say that because I don't know if there was something she did on her end prior to me restoring the data profile. She may have to initiate a specific update to get pushed through. After doing the restore, I think the phone reboots and automatically "handshakes" with Sprint to register. After several minutes of this and that, your phone is done with STEP 1 for all 4G issues.

This is how it works. They will do this set of steps, as the stage in troubleshooting 4G problems. Well, I'm done with this step, but iti didn't work. This morning, I got the lag spike.
I agree! We should call and create a ticket. We all have the same problem. 4G lags terribly.

Me too, but I just installed the update about an hour ago. Haven't had too much time to test. But at first glance... no apparent lag.

Not here, I get a constant rescanning when turned off in alogcat.
I don't think that every-two-seconds notification is the cause of the lag, though- in fact, on my EVO there's stuff flowing out of logcat that's happening with a much higher frequency.

That being said, I think the update fixed the lag, as well- I've tried it (with the 4G widget on all the time) in two 4G markets (SFBA and OC/LA) and even though the signal would come in and out of 4G, it never had the "IO Wait" 100% CPU lag that would happen in the previous versions where you had to reboot to get rid of it.

Even my previously-suggested fix from before the update to refresh your profile would sometimes result that 100% IO Wait condition, and I had to use "System Monitor" to kill all the apps to fix it (I think that the nexus which handles fallback between 4G/3G/Wifi has been improved in this version- it seemed to be that having your data source change while some apps had an established connection would cause them to spin waiting on the previous IP connection, my guess.)

I just updated to the new software version hoping it will fix this problem I've had since the beginning. I'm not in Atlanta right now, so I'll have to wait a few weeks to test if it worked. *crosses fingers*

I have a more serious issue than most it seems.

I CAN'T turn 4G on using the Menu -> Settings -> Wireless. It won't work, it scans, and then after 20 seconds or so, it stops trying to connect.

I can use SwitchPro widgent to turn on 4G everytime. Once 4G is on, I can go back through Menu -> Settings to turn it off and back on.

I also just updated to 3.7. We'll see if this fixes the lag issue.

Let's say that my phone has a specific hardware issue that causes all my grief. If Sprint agrees to replace my phone, can I import my Anrgy Birds progress into the new phone somehow?

The update to 3.7 definitely fixed the lag for me. I'm in an area where 4G isn't officially turned on, and I'm seeing some disconnects.

So far, 4G isn't appreciably faster for web browsing, but it sure is faster for file downloads.
