Help Horrible video playback

I shot some videos of the family opening there gifts and just regular family happenings on Christmas and I finally viewed them. They are horrible. The picture freezes and becomes distorted. I only shot a couple of videos before that and they were also jumpy, but since the ones on Christmas were longer, around 5 minutes or so, they were just plain hard to watch. This is ridiculous, a phone of this magnitude with the camera like is a joke. I know its a phone but with all the marketing put into all the specs of the phone focusing on the 8 mp camera and the ability to record in HD, we shouldnt have problems like this. If anyone has any solutions to help video playback I am all ears. Any apps yet that help? I am rooted so any root apps that might work?

i played around with my phone and recorded about 2 minutes of video...no special settings or apps...just stock - and it looked just fine on mine.

The 720p recording on the evo just doesn't work. Some people have recommended getting a class 6 sd card to fix the problem. I haven't tried it myself. But I've tried 720p on 3 different evos with the same crappy results. So if you're recording video on your evo and its not choppy, check your settings to see if it's really on 720p

Ive only shot 720 so Im going to test the other formats and see if its the same. Thats a shame if the only aspect the doesnt work properly is the 720.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section or if my problem has been addressed before.

Problem: The stock camcorder app on my Evo gives me choppy video where the video actually completely pauses for a second or two. The audio is still working during that glitch, but the constant choppy pauses in the video are annoying and ruin the videos.

Info:
Android 2.2
Stock Camcorder App
Camcorder settings - Resolution 720 p (1280 x 720)
Encoding type - MPEG 4
Metering Mode - Average

Questions: Is there anything I can do to fix the pausing/choppy effect in the videos? Would anyone recommend trying a new camcorder app to fix it? Or is it the physical camcorder itself that is causing the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey DD - moved your post over here, no apologies needed - my answer and others begins at post 5, above.

Hope this helps, post back if more questions on this, cheers!

Bottom line, MPEG4 is an older codec, H.264 is much newer, and is optimized for motion.

Thanks a lot! This helped tremendously. I just changed the codec to H.264 and it doesn't skip or pause anymore.

I apologize for bringing this post back from the dead, but I'm experiencing the exact same issue with a video I took yesterday of the space shuttle launch. Now, obviously, I can't retake that video, so I'm wondering, is there any way to correct the issue using some kind of software? It seems like it should be doable since all the frames and audio are there, I just don't know where to begin with it.

Thanks!
