Interested in reviews of using the hot spot/tethering on the 3D with 3G. My Evo 4G experience has been random speed wise with mostly being slow unless connected via 4G. Connecting via USB for access is usually much quicker than using the hot spot.
I pushed it to see if it would say anything about 29.99 and didnt. I know the Nexus S was free. Anyone know definitively if its free or not?
I was under the impression that you had to root droid devices to get that. It would be very nice if it came out of the box working free though.
OK, it eventually said i wasnt able to. However when I had the Nexus S, I was. It's kind of shady that with one its free and the other it isnt, especially since at the store they are advertised identically saying that phone has hotspot (with nothing about an additional cost)
For free tethering to ONE device, download PDANet. Perhaps the best app out there. =)
Sprint doesn't offer the hotspot feature on any phone for free. You may have just been lucky with the Nexus.
It has been talked about in the Nexus S forum, as well as confirmed by friends of mine who have that phone. Everyone is currently getting free hotspot with Sprint on that phone.
It is possible Google is paying for it. I just think its misrepresentation for them to market the feature the same in store, when one has it free and the other doesn't.
to my knowledge, you dont even need wifi tether on the ns4g. its part of gingerbread. The way I understand it is it is a part of gingerbread...then sprint goes in and puts all their rubbish in (nascar, nfl, gps, etc) and has the ability to block the hotspot feature. Since the ns4g has no sprint software, the hotspot feature has not been turned off on it by them.
Could be wrong, this is just the way i understand it

Yeah you dont need anything, in settings you just go to wifi/network and its just really easy to start up. Like turning on 4g.

They charge for the hotspot.![]()
When I connect my EVO 3D to my PC and select connection type "USB tethering", I get a window saying it's searching for HTC Sync on my PC. When it doesn't find it, it says I can mount the SD card and install it from that or I can download it from the HTC - Mobile Phones, Smartphones, Cell Phones, PDAs web site. But I can't find the installation file on the SD card and HTC EVO 3D isn't one of the selectable product types on the web site. So where can I get HTC Sync???Yeah you dont need anything, in settings you just go to wifi/network and its just really easy to start up. Like turning on 4g.

I'm not sure. The quote you quoted me on was referencing the Nexus S.
