Root How can I back up phone????

I rooted my phone using the unrevoked method yesterday, and installed wifi tether and autokiller memory, and overclock widget. My question is, how can I back up my phone before installing new rom? I heard it is a definete must to do that. Just in case your wondering here is link to rom I was going to install Koni

I am to do a nand back-up does that mean nand is unlocked? If I install a rom do need to wipe out all my data and cache? And will I lose everything?

Yes you will lose everything, use titanium backup to back up your apps and data, just don't back up system apps. Then do a nandroid backup, then wipe then flash. Definitely read rooting for dummies, as the poster above me said.

when you rooted your phone with unrevoked, it does three things:
1.turns off security, s-off
2.unlocks nand
3.installs a custom recovery

you must do two things in order for you to flash a rom:
1.make a nandroid backup(they are your friends)
2.wipe,wipe, and wipe some more. wipe data, dalvik cache and cache. there also some useful tools like calkulins formats all or vr superwipe. you can get them http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download sticky.html

now you can flash your rom.

titanium backup, do a backup of all apps, and data.. there is a batch mode in there where you can get it..

there is confusion.. a full wipe dont wipe your sdcard.. so you wont lose any of that stuff.. pictures and everything.. it just wipes the system data..

so.. put your files on your sdcard, rom zips, superwipe zips, stuff like that..

boot into recovery.. (power plus vol down button)

if you have the superwipe, go to install zip from sdcard.. find the super wipe.. and run it.. then do it again.. and one more time.. i even went as far as running the data reset option in the recovery menu.. then running superwipe again.. just to be sure

next.. install zip from sdcard.. go find your rom zip file.. and your good to go..

Patience is the key here.. dont be impatient.. only time i would get worried is if i am on the HTC screen for ovr 10 minutes... if not.. let it do its thing.. the new roms need to build up cache, and it takes time..

enjoy.. inbox me if you have other questions..

I just used rom manager to do a back up it restarting now, its normal for it to be on the white "htc EVO 4G" screen for about 10mins????

it can take a bit. anymore then 10 min you may have to pull the battery out and see if you can boot up.

one thing though i would not recommend that you use rom manager. it is very buggy and does not wipe very well which can create issues. i would do everything from recovery manually. get to know your recovery, because you never know when things will go wrong and all you have is your recovery.

I just tried to do a backup manaully(sp?) My phone will load bootloader screen but when I go down to recovery, revovery won't load I just waited about 15mins and just stayed on the white htc EVO 4G screen, anything I can try?

try pulling out the battery and see if you can get to it again. if not then we have to get you a new recovery in hboot. but lets see what happens after the battery pull.

pulled battery tried to start phone normally worked fine. Tried to reboot back into recovery again and still didnt open recovery stayed on white screen again

ok so cant get to it. easiest way to switch is to use rom manager(probably the only time you will see me suggest using rom managr) to switch recoveries. select alternate recovery. diregard the warning and select amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery and does a much better job at wiping. once done you should make a nandroid backup. and all your previous ones will not work with amon ra.

After using this video How To: Unlock NAND on the HTC Evo 4G | TheUnlockr to try and unlock nand, I can go to white bootloader screen but I cant go to recovery when I do. I get a black screen with picture of phone and red exclaimtion point in triangle. When I try to load phone like normal it just stays on white evo screen and does nothing I waited for 35mins and still nothing. Any suggestions. before trying this I did do a nand backup yesterday and I used rom manager and did a back up this morning. I also backed most apps and data using titantuim backup.

if you ran unrevoked and you have s-off there is no need to re-root your phone. can you get to the hboot(bootloader) screen? do you have s-off and what is your hboot? have you tried a different recovery?

I used the unrevoked method. Does that mean nand is off already? I have s-boot off and I can load boot loader, I can't get into recovery thats when I get that image. I was just sent this to try and use on my phone by another user http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=PC36IMG.zip my phone is just on white htc evo 4g screen after Iwent to boot loader let it update the and then rebooted it.

yep that is a custom recovery called amon ra. it is the one i would recommend. just download and transfer the file over to the root(no folders) of the card. and let hboot do its thing. after it is done make sure to make nandroid backup.

i pm'd him that recovery image.. we are tryin to get him up and working.. think his unrevoked root method may have messed up or something.. but through PM, i think i am getting him working.. slowly but surely..

It almost sounds like they did a full wipe but did not flash the rom i had a friend freak out because all he could do was get to bootloader and recovery. Turns out when you wipe your entire system you might want to flash a rom for it to bot into lol.

Have you accessed recovery at all previous to the issues Im assuming clockwork since you had Rom manager?
