Root How can I remove Indulge startup audio?

This ""hello hello hello. MetroPCS. Wireless for all" is getting embarrassing now. Anyone knows how to removed that from Indulge?

Where is that located Mike, and does there need to be any audio file or could the line just be deleted?

what mike gave you is a directory. On UNIX based file systems, the root directory is /, so what you need to do is navigate to the directory /etc/ and replace the file PowerOn.wav with a custom one. You can do that using root explorer or some similar app (i for example use Super Manager). Or you can use adb to push a new file over the existing one, or just delete it using the rm command.
Now I believe you can just delete it, but I have not yet tested it that way...
If anything, I'm off from work today, I may just make a custom sound for all of us that is more fit.

Mike sounds like this will be a good option to add in the bloatware removal script.

"Remove start up audio 'Hello, Hello, Hello' " Y/N

Is this done through "ADB" command prompt on my pc??

Im learning all of this "ADB" "SDK" things from you guys.
REALLY AWESOME WORK. VERY AWESOME PHONE!
So i'd like to thank all of you.

I forgot about the startup sound I promised you guys.

Here's a quick one I pulled and slightly modified from Zedge.
I might just decide to create a whole new set of system sounds...
I'll keep in touch about that one. ;)

Just unzip the file (AF won't allow upload of .wav files), and you should be good to go!

Doesn't my phone have to rooted in order to read and write on the Indulge? I've found no root for this phone so far. =\

Can you just push over a regular old WAV audio file? Or do you need to do something to it first (other than re/name it properly)?

I found some cool Star Wars ones here:

GalaxyFarAway.com | Star Wars Sounds Archive - A Complete Star Wars Reference

Here are a few cool ones from that site:

Probe Droid (mp3, just needs to be converted)

"Look sir, droids!"

A couple, slightly longer/better ones here:

Sounds

Here's a cool one from a different site, with hydraulic sounds also (would be good for bootup):

The MovieWavs Page - Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope: hydraulics.wav

Here's one called Alien Droid

Thank you SOOOO much for helping me change the startup sound on my phone!

Unless I did something wrong, it seems the length of the wav is limited to about 12 seconds. The wav file I put in there is about 30 seconds of the Jeopardy theme, since I have to wait for the thing to start up. haha =)

Success. Now my phone is the best phone in the whole entire WORLD! Thats FREAKING DOPE! Thanks peeps.

How about changes to the startup animation? Do we know the location and format of that file as well?

Yeah but its a custom file format that Samsung uses and there is no way to change/create a new one.

The shutdown animation on the other hand should be changeable as its just a collection of images that gets played one after the other.

What is the location for the shutdown forlder Mike?

Can we get a copy of the same file from another Galaxy phone? I'd just like to remove the MetroPCS logo.

ok the phone on boot can play any ani-type the vid drivers can... just like windows hacks and others...
as i am still learning Droid and this phone, and you all have more time in.. in what file is the ani. file called instead of over writing the ani as we cannot get what samsung uses to compile it.. we tell the script to load our file type from the location..
do you know what file I might look for the lines in?

Sorry for this... but I "rooted" the phone using the same directions for removing the bloatware (finally worked after following the directions last night 5 times and then the first time this morning it took) and then attempted to delete Poweron.wav in the /etc directory. I attempted to do so using both Astro and Super Manager.

I have not been able to remove the startup audio.

Can someone write step by step directions for the removal of this awful noise?

You cannot delete it through Astro. Using super manager, you must grant it root access first.
In the super manager settings, you'll find the option to do that. That's the program I use, so if you cannot find it, I'll post the step by step instructions for you upon request.
Without having root privileges, the app cannot delete/rename system files.

Edit: just checked my phone. You can enable root in super manager like so:
Super Manager-> Settings-> Enable ROOT Function. (should be the third option down)
You don't need to change anything else after that. Just backspace and try deleting the file again.
