Whooo...where do I begin?
May 28
I realized that bills need to be paid, so I sadly decided not to pick up an EVO on June 4th. (didn't bother to Pre-order, obviously)
June 2nd
Out of sheer curiosity I head over to "A Store" to inquire about the EVO and stare longingly at a demo model(if any). I then meet "Pete", who spends about an hour with me chatting away about random phone stuff. Not to sound egotistical, but I noticed Pete was giving me the..
look. Pete also gives me his business card on which he has scratched out the corporate # and replaced it with his cell. (umm...yea...ok)
June 3rd(Day before Launch)
My Blackberry which was riding the fail whale already, went batshit and died on me. Clearly I had no choice, but to replace my phone...heh heh BILLS BE DAMNED!! mind you I'm under the impression I can get the EVO for $199. So I call Pete and tell him the bad/good news and he tells me that I'm NOT eligible for the lower price AND all of the EVOs they have are spoken for, no dice.
Later that day, I received a text...come that Friday, leave your Blackberry and pick up your EVO
Of course I call him and say "what do you mean, aren't they all taken? Didn't people put money down for them? I haven't even pre-ordered!!"
All he is says is "see you Friday".
SO that Friday as I watched scores of disappointed people leaving the store EVO-less...I watched Pete as he activated mine, in between giving me googly eyes. I still questioned Pete's motivation for going the extra mile for me, but that soon disappeared when I took off my sunglasses giving him a full view of my face. "Ahhh Girls and Summertime, love it" he said and slid my Evo over to me.
Not only did Pete do something else amazing for me(which I won't say, because it sounds a bit out the company standards IMHO), he also gave me a flawless EVO. No Glass lifting, No light leakage, No Bricking with the 1st update or battery issues
