Help How do I turn on USB Storage

Whitey31

Lurker
I was successful in connecting it and it showing up in my computer one time.
But since then usb storage doesnt come up. I read the manual and checked notification panel and theres nothing there. I dont know if I turned it off by default, how do I turn it back on?

It prompts you to turn it on when you connect it to your computer. If it is connected and doesn't com up try using a different usb port on the computer.

Supposedly you don't need the drivers to connect your phone to your pc, but neither my OpV nor my Intercept would connect until I installed the drivers on my computer.

If you haven't already, try installing the drivers. Check this thread.

You don't need drivers for Mac OS X. Just plug it in, click the button on the robot-with-plug screen on the phone, and it should appear as a drive in the Finder.

I dont know what to do. I tried another usb port, I tried another computer. Still can't
get it to mount. My girl has same phone and hers works fine when I plug it in.
i did a restore on my phone and still have no luck. Should I get my phone replaced?

Should I get my phone replaced?

That depends on how important this feature is to you, and if you are willing to live with workarounds (like using Dropbox, FTP etc).

Persoannly Id want all the features on my phone to work properly. The other part is.. did you purchase your OpV from a local store and do you still have the receipt, or did you order it from VM?

If you got it from a local store, take the phone back and get a new one. If you ordered it from VM, then be aware that they will likely not send you a brand new phone. They like sending refurbished ones, and it's difficult to get them to replace your phone with another brand new one.

I've had this happen to my phone when I try connecting it to my work computer, which is running Windows XP. This doesn't work everytime but I had disconnect the phone from the PC, reboot both the PC and phone, then connect the phone to the PC after both are finished loading.

I never have this problem with my home computers running Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

I think your phone has a problem. If hers works fine and yours still doesn't work on another computer and her does I think your usb port is faulty.

Yes. Call Virgin or if you purchased it very recently and have all the paperwork take it back to the store. I would call Virgin first though.

When you plug it into your computer and it dings, go to your phone, put your finger on the top bar where the clock is and pull down. There should be a line there that says "USB Connected". Tap that line and a screen will come up with a button that says "Turn on USB storage". Tap that button and tap "OK". A screen will now show USB storage in use and a window on your computer should come up and give you options, click "Open folders to view files" and Windows explorer will come up showing the folders on your phone.

If you still don't see it, go to Menu /settings/applications /development /then as fast as you can turn USB debugging on /off /on. Go back and plug into PC making sure screen is on when you do so. If it still doesn't show the icon in status bar, disconnect and connect phone. This might take a couple of tries. My phone occasionally is hard to connect and this is what I've had to do every now and again.

You can also try powering off your phone and then plugging it in to your computer. Once it's plugged in, then power the phone on. Hopefully new drivers will attempt to install.

Try this. Go to System Preferences > Network and on the left you should see a list of your network devices. In this list, there should be an entry for "LG something or other". Select it, and click the minus button at the bottom of list to delete it. Then click apply. Your USB should connect after that.

You edited the default settings so go to(If on Gingerbread)
Settings>Wireless & Networks>USB Connection Mode
If you want it to ask you what to do when it boots up tap "Ask on connection"... otherwise you can select it's default action when connecting to your computer(Either "Charging" or "Mass Storage") If you want to copy and move files you press "Mass Storage"

I have tried all of these, except calling customer service or replacing my phone. Nothing is working, and I want to be able to move my videos and pictures to my laptop from my Nexus S. Any other ideas?

Aeris, I had the same problem with my Galaxy i55 and a friend helped, turned out I had debugging turned on. Well, now that I have the LG, I had same problem again, only debugging was already turned off.

In case Debugging is turned on, you can find it under Settings / Applications / Development and turn off. I found my solution under Settings / Storage / Mass storage only

The other option I found but didn't work was Settings /
Wireless & Networks / Wi Fi Direct / USB Utilities

then USB Mass Storage comes up. Hope this helps.

I doubt it is debugging, i connect via USB and always have debugging enabled. But it is worth a try.

see post 21 for a better fix but yep when I use to plug in my OV for moving data via USB, it always said debugging on.

Sorry, none of these work for me. I'm on a VM670, Virgin Mobile in the US, Android 2.2.1 (no upgrade available), SW version VM670ZV4, H/W version 1.2, purchased in Best Buy about 10 months ago. My main computer is running Linux. I'm not even seeing most of the menu options you have been talking about (except debugging). I'm not rooted - waiting for the warranty to expire before trying it. Does anyone have a suggestion (besides rooting)?
