How do I upgrade my Phandroid status?

You can apply to become a Guide or be nominated by others. Sometimes Phases will make an announcement for people to apply because new Guides are needed. To be a mod, you have to be selected by admins and the current moderators.
On some rare occasions you can become a moderator without even being a Guide and becoming a Guide doesn't mean you will become a moderator. Shivers was a mod before becoming an admin, but he's the only one and that was a long time ago. There's also a special criteria posted by Frisco.

Awwwww, you mean I actually have to do work? I just want a fancy banner and the authority to smite evil doers. Can we create a new category called "Punisher" or "Stormtrooper"?

So how do you nominate a person to be a mod? There is a very helpful and very smart person I have in mind and imo I think he deserves a step up (if he would want to of course)

To be a mod, you have to be willing to give up pretty much any other hobbies. I used to mod a forum for a facebook game that was insanely popular at the time, and it took up so much time that I ended up not even having time to play the game anymore. Of course, not playing, I lost interest and lost touch with the changes, which made me kinda a bad mod anyway, and since I had neither the time nor the inclination, I reclaimed my life.
Which means I get to be here spamming you guys in between playing WoW and playing with my phone.

OK - I think you've got the wrong idea, but if you really want the Stormtrooper job, we do actually have that class on staff. I've sent a Punisher out to interview one of them, here's what they came back with:
