Obviously it's a digital zoom. It has been suggested that instead of digital zoom, you'll get better quality to crop the picture after taking it. That's essentially all you're doing with digital zoom anyway, but making the picture more "pixelated" in the process.

lol - good lord... I literally had no idea there was a zoom. I was even complaining about it to my wife - "The camera seems pretty good, but wtf, no way to zoom?". Hi, I'm an idiot

the easiest way to zoom is to take a few steps forward. digital zoom just kills picture quality.
