Root How do you Esteem Rom Developers test out Custom Rom?

Hi. How do you guys test out roms before actually installing to the phone?

After numerous google-ing and trying, I was able to modify #2 Rom and flash to my spare Esteem phone. Eh.. it was nothing much though, just using different launcher and removing some of the APKs.. but wow man.. it took very long time just to create flashable rom with Kitchen and stuff :congrats:

I tried to find testing custom roms but I wasn't very successful. So here's my question. How do you usually test out ROMS?

Do you have any easy way (like using Android SDK and AVD?) to test out or just install it on phone and see if it works?

Any help will be appreciated, thank you :)

The best way is to just flash it on the phone and see first hand.

If you were just removing some apk's and adding some stuff, all you needed was 7zip from which would have taken all of 60 seconds to add or subtract.

If your modding a ROM that you are currently running on the phone, then you can use Android Commander and push individual files that you have modded to the phone instead of flashing a whole ROM. For instance if you change some battery images around, all you would need to do is push the framework-res.apk to the phone via commander and reboot. You'll see if you changes actually worked and you didn't have to flash an entire ROM to find out. ;)

also if you plan on adding apk to the rom before flashing, make sure you have the correct name for the apk and put it in the right path.

Thank you for all the feedbacks.

I was wondering if there's way to use virtual simulation program that reads rom file and draw stuff on computer screen ^_^

Guess the best way is actually putting on the phone.

I have also downloaded Android commander as Fuzzy suggested. I am playing with it now. It's ver neat :)

If you want to get really high tech with it and dont want to flash it to your for testing...it is possible to setup your files with a program called eclipse and it has an android emulator that will simulate it being on a phone. Im afraid I cant tell you much more as to how to do this but there are plenty of guides out there to do it just waiting to be googled! ;)

I really agree with others though to just flash and see though. As long as you have a backup and exitrecovery.zip on hand you shouldnt run into anything you cant get out of. I make no guarantee's of that though. :p
