Help How do you keep your Evo fast?

All phone lag from time to time, I can live with that, but every now and then, my phone will just be... slow... For an hour or two at a time sometimes. I've tried a number of different "task managers" and "cache cleaners", and none of them seem to be a good fix. I end up just having to reboot to get it back to normal most of the time.

I was just wondering, what do you do, whether it be reboot every night, overclock, run multiple task killers, or do nothing, to keep your EVO running as fast as we all know it is capable of?

Well, i am on my first Evo that i picked up launch day, and i have no problems at all with speed. I do run the latest nightly of CM7, Savage kernel 0.2.1 CFS, SetCpu overclocked and underclocked screen off profile. On average i can achieve 30 hours of battery life, and see no lag in performance.

You shouldn't be seeing hours of slow performance on the phone. The first step is to identify if the cause is from an app running in the background. For that, I highly recommend the paid version of System Panel. One of the best apps for tracking both real-time and historical CPU and battery usage. If there's something sucking up resources, System Panel will show it.

30 hours? With how much use? I consider myself a fairly heavy user. I play a lot of music (1-2hrs a day), do a lot of web surfing (anywhere from 30min-3hours), and send a lot of texts (between 20-150 a day) and I get about 15hours off a charge, and I consider than decent. I used to over/underclock (due to a recent crash i lost my netarchy kernel, and havnt reflashed it) and got maybe another hour out of it. But 30hours? Is CM7 with the Savage kernel just the fastest thing ever, as well as a battery saver, or are you a light user?

Note: The heavy lag only occurs once every other week or so. not too often.

He's a light user. I'm on CM7 with Savage. I get about what you're getting.

As for keeping the phone fast... use it? I dunno. I never worry about the free RAM or anything running anymore. If I notice it's bogging down, I just hip hop into the in-built task manager and see what's going berserker. End it, then continue on like nothing happened.

The EVO is a laptop in your pocket. Every once in awhile you have to restart your laptop and a an EVO is a laptop to me. Who leaves their laptop running 24/7?

Downloaded.

I'll start to keep an eye on whats eating power. I hope there is a simple fix to this, cuz it's on the annoying side. Especially when im trying to type

Reboot your phone. Some live wallpaper apps and some apps in general will do that. I don't blame Android, I blame the developer. You can also email the developer so they are aware of the problem and so they can fix it. If not you can use another app if possible. Some developers are good and some are bad. Uninstall problematic apps and your phone will speed up. You have to pay attention to apps you install and see if you notice a difference with your phone. Sometimes apps do not play nice with Android and sometimes apps won't play nice with each other.
