Root How do you like your CM7 cooked?

So I took over development of CM7 and really it's not for me it's for the Android Community. I simply do it because it's a fun hobby on the side, and it gives me a chance to create something and share it with you all.

So I have added the 360 launcher and some themes, fixed a few bugs along the way and have received many thanks and praise for the work. However I have been thinking of going a completely new direction in removing 360, the new themes and removing as much extra bloat as possible.

Basically build a stock based CM7 and let you guys and gals customize it the way you see fit. I have created a poll and let you all decided since again this is for the Android Community.

I must have missed this thread when I posted in the last one.
As for me,I would like to see anything that's available in the market removed. That way I could let the market update keep me up to date. I'm going to improve this post when I get home. But I know I delete email.apk and most of the wallpapers.

I think that whatever you do will be a good idea g60.

One thing you could do if you felt like it is you could release the very basic unbloated version and include screenshots and links to different launchers and themes that you approve of and like to use. Most of us know how to install themes and launchers, but I would really like the opinion of a developer on what themes and launchers look cool and where to find them.

Could you release both. Since I assume you will continue to tweak your on daily drive, you could make that available and then also have the stripped down version available if it is not too much trouble.

A bare bones CM7 with just the minimum stuff would be awesome! I only use gmail so for me even the e-mail apk could be taken out... Thanks for being so open to suggestions.

I use the Zeam launcher, small and fast, with my own mods. I have purchased Go and ADW launchers in the past, but have decided I don't like the performance hit/feature trade-off.
also I use ES File Explorer, and consider it the best (great support and responsive to feature requests)... no use for any of the others.

well as long as the cm7 is fast/smooth and great battery life im fine no bloatware so its fast. i did kind of find 360 launcher to kill some batery but ur rom was great! keep up the good work!

Good, I disliked 360 very much! I think the stock launcher is fine. I've been using it ever since adw was ditched, but I didn't mind Adw either. Also, i second the es file explorer motion. One thing I would like to see happen, and i don't know as it's appropriate for this thread, but I've been thinking about a lot is if it's possible to add a mod that turns on torch when you hit home on lockscreen (like miui). I tried miui and loved that feature, but didn't like some of the performance issues.

Thanks for all the input! I will leave the poll open for a few days but it looks like kill the bloat is the way to go. I will work on some documentation on tweaking the ROM with different launchers and such. But looks like the community has spoken

me personally i love what you have been doing with this rom, and that 360 launcher is so smooth its crazy, but i personally cant get over the chinese and such, i personally prefer the reloaded style with built in adw since it is built into the settings and has extra setting like transition effects


i was checking it out the other day and the 360 weather, the chinese and no us locations made it non useful for me

i usually perfer stock browser over most, 360 browser i didnt even use

the 360 battery saver and cleaner widgets were probly all i could use and did use

so ill throw my hat into the bloatware free ring lol, altho ive got nothing but love for all the fixes and tweaks you have added to make this rom better

I like all of your additions and fixes aside from 360 launcher, and if you were to remove the bloatware all I'd want is to at least keep the file manager, then again I really don't notice much bloatware on account of the number of apps I have

Keep it as minimalistic as possible. Remove everything except the ones that can not be downloaded later from the market. Zeam launcher is a good choise for default. I even don't need wallpapers and ringtones I use only one of them anyway.

I don't want to make extra work for you but the dual release method sounds ideal. If you could release a minimal rom and a customized rom, it would be the best of both worlds. Hardcore users could tweak the minimal rom to their heart's delight, and new users could use the full rom using your guidance on best settings.

Either way, all the hard work you put in is appreciated. :thumbup:

I would make a barebones version. Then add an optional flashable zip for the extra stuff.

Or a build that has just the standard "official" CM7 stuff (adw/dsp/etc).

It's all up to you though, it's your build.

Oh and the more custom settings the better haha, I love starting with a blank (Or almost blank) slate and tweaking the h*ll (I dunno if I should say that in here so I'm being safe) outta it


To add to the post above me a dual release would be cool, but in reply to Bill Clay, g60 said he'll offer downloads, so while it could be a little more work for users I think it would remove the issue of needing a dual release.

I think that would be the way to go. Maybe make a flashable zip of the removed apps, minus the 360 launcher. As for removed apps I am not going to go crazy just stuff that doesn't really make sense like CMStats, CMWallpapers, DevTools and such. I like the DSP Manager, but ADW has to go (that's why I punted it) as I always make it disappear by clicking on the darn app icon. Right now the build I have cooking will have Zeam for the launcher as I really like the speed, and the size is only 389k. Will see what it looks like once it's built.

That sounds like the way to go. Never tried Zeam, I'll have to check it out some time. Who knows, maybe by the time I stop being lazy and download it you'll already have your next build out haha.

I didn't like 360launcher, but I do really like the themes you included.

Guess I'm a split vote.

Just tried out zeam launcher a little. Seems really quick and simple so far, reminds me of launcher pro. Seems like it needs some work though, the auto fit items option doesn't work properly for me, some of the icons are appearing beneath the dock, etc.

well the boot logo should be staying
and depending on that theme system its running the cyan over black i dont think should be an issue to get

i also love the cyan over black, but i prefer the ICS style cyan over the cyanbread color(they seem to be just a lil different), so for me currently running cm7 reloaded with theme chooser and adw, i decompile the adw theme apk and changed app drawer text color and apps on homescreen text color to match cyan all over for me lol

as one of the few people willing to take over rom cooking for the triumph, you technically could drop WHATEVER you want on us and we would be forced to take it until someone else helps, but you are doin the opposite.

I havent changed roms in 2-3 months but i will try your newest fresh cm7 build when i see it.
