How good is your GPS?

Please download "GPS Test" from the Android Market.

List how many satellites you get "In View" and how many "In Use".

Me:
In View: 12
In Use: 0

Using Samsung Vibrant....which is why I want an EVO if it has a better GPS.

mine has been perfect, i will never use map quest again. my favorite part is the starting point "my location" saves me that 20 seconds it takes to put in a starting address!

lol, you are relentless

Are you inside or out?

9 in view, 8 in use, accuracy 10ft.... currently in the john. :)

lot of variables, but i have 9 in view, and nine in use. accuracy 26.2 feet

just dropped to 7 and 7, but accuracy is now 19.7 feet

Gps is pretty spot on, the Evo doesnt have the same gps problems currently affecting the galaxy line. LOL, I'm sure you knew that already, but more than happy to reiterate it:)

I think it is very good. I have already done a bunch of geocaching with this and the caches are always very close to where the Evo says. 7ft accuracy is typical, which is pretty decent.

:) I can see how you might think so, but you reap what you sow. You multiple threads in the Epic 4G has earned you some grief.

I'm using 9 with an accuracy of 6 feet.

I would say its the most accurate i've ever had phone wise. I remember when I had my tp2 that thing used to lag and youd be sometimes 500ft ahead of the indicator on the gps.

Using the GPS on the Evo is one of (if not THE) most battery-intensive activities on the phone. I remember from my blackberry days the frustration of losing GPS signal while navigating a new location. My wife's iPhone 3G was exactly the same. At the time, I researched why the phones would drop signal while a dedicated nav device would not. The difference is in the amount of power the radio utilized to find the satellites.

Apparently, the Evo puts GPS satellite connectivity above conservation of battery (opposite of BB and iPhone). Therefore, GPS performance is top-notch on the Evo (never had a single instance of GPS signal loss except going through Boston's Big Dig), but battery takes a good beating after using the nav.

Getting a car charger that delivers 1A+ AND triggers quick-charge on the phone is definitely worth the investment if you plan to use the phone's nav a lot.

9/9
but this is a bit of a flawed benchmarking in comparing to others since there are high variables such as location.
