How many Epic Exchanges till U found a good one?

My wife is on her second. First one had unresponsive home button and it bricked after installing Task Killer. This one has back button that's a little iffy, but she thinks she's going to keep it.

I'm on number 2. My phone had an issue where it would randomly flash the home/lock screen while inside apps/emails.

I was at the Sprint store trying to fall in love with the Epic so I can give my Evo away and I dont know if it was just that one phone on display but the timing on the captive buttons was way off.

Do they all suffer from this issue?

no they don't all have a issue I own both phones and both phones capacitive buttons work equally well for me.

At least this thread is only 2 pages...ours was rivaling four by this time.
Well the EVO was obviously released in batches... as noted by people having different versions of their screens and whatnot. Some hardware had more problems than others.

But relative to the population of people that own them, the Epic has had more problem phones than the EVO. Clearly more people have the EVO, therefore more people are going to have issues.

I've personally had more problems with my Epic than EVO... but the pros outweigh the cons. I can't go back to a snapdragon\TFT LCD :(

I'm kinda bummed because my phone has no issues except crappy down volume button which makes the zoom almost impossible to use on the camera.

I'm just worreid about getting one with more issues. but I guess i can just keep exchanging up until the 30 day limit.

I just really thought Samsung where better than this....quality wise. I guess to an extent I can understand some teething issues, especially software wise....but build? Seriously, a company like Samsung should be above all these issues (rattling, button, sound issues etc....) Someone in their quality control department needs to lose their job. These issues just aren't acceptable. It's not like these phones are free. They're bloody expensive!

Just returned #1 yesterday to Best Buy, the screen was raised enough on one side that you could feel the edge of the glass when you ran your finger over it. Get home, and notice #2 has a significant gap between the screen and slider, you can see major daylight...will give it a week and see if I find it acceptable.

Love the phone, but don't want problems a month or 2 from now!

I have the issue with a gap between my keyboard and screen... but I bought the case they have that goes on the top and bottom and still lets it slide... and it actually closes up the gap. Adds some bulk to the phone, but I don't mind being a little rough with it now either. Case is very protective.

my signal goes out throughout the day sometimes doesnt come back on i have to turn airplane mode on then off and 3g will come back on. would that be a reason to exchange the phone? or does everyones do it?

Zero. Got it on launch day and still awesome. Trust me, for the money this thing cost out of pocket along with monthly fees, it's going back at the first sign of a defect.

I wonder if manufacture data of the Epic has anything to do with the problems? Over on the 3G speed problem thread, people with a July build date were more likely to have DL/UL speed issues than those with phones built in August. Maybe they cleaned up their manufacturing during August build dates?

I just got mine in and have to wait for it to be activated, should happen any minute now. The sliding keyboard is actually quite solid. Light isn't visible near the edges when the keyboard is closed and the opens/closes very nicely. Mine is an August build. Maybe the ones you guys are getting when swapping have been made in August? The date is stamped on the phone, under where the battery goes. It will either have 2010.07 (July) or 2010.08 (August).

umm I have no idea why yall had problems with the epic but me and 2 of my friends got it on launch date and none of us have any complaints or problems with it.

Man!.. im so glad mine isnt having these problems (knock on wood) my buttons work great.. no gaps between keyboard.. i have an 10.08 build

I replaced the first one because the screen back cross bar scratched the keyboard, the physical keyboard didn't respond to every touch, and my 3g speeds sucked. My second one is okay so far, my screen slightly clicks when i press on the top right. I'm probably not going to exchange it unless I have more problems with it.

I'm going to add to this thread. I'm currently on number 4. And I will probably be going back for a 5th soon.

1st - software kept crashing and I had to keep reseting 10-15 times per day to keep running.

2nd - 4g absolutely would not connect. Not going to pay $10 for a service I can't use.

3rd - would not mount or read SD cards. (Only had this one for 5 minutes cause we found the problem while exchanging from the 2nd)

4th - Slide mechanism is insanely loose. It flops around and rattles while I type on the keyboard and makes creaking sounds if I even touch the display. I'm not talking about being a little loose, there is a lot of play between the screen portion and the keyboard portion.

Now I really like the phone, and I hope this will be the last time I feel the need to exchange phones.

But I won't tolerate a poorly made device. Companies out there are seriously lacking in quality control and they need a wake up call. It is not acceptable to buy a product with a single flaw and it should be sent back to let the manufacturers know that we won't accept this kind of quality in our goods.

i am going to an official sprint store i bought it at (but no repairs there) later today for gps problems, unresponsive buttons, and terrible battery life (trying all suggestions) ... what do i say? i'm sure most stores are relunctant to exchange. i seem to remember a restocking fee being mentioned when i bought the phone? also will i need receipt or will they have it in computer?
