How many GNs have you gone through?

if you going to send back your last one, send it to me it sounds perfect for me! LOL

Well, looks like I may get a 7th phone afterall, or just part ways. I should not have to swap a phone SEVEN TIMES to get one that has a working radio and a screen without issues.

I wish this was obviously a software bug (the data+voice dropping), but I think it's hardware. This phone's manufacture date is the same as the other 2 that had problematic radios. Sigh.

I am getting mine tomorrow directly from verizon wireless.com so hoping they have the latest batches

you must be a glutton for punishment? lol. the old adage, 3rd times a charm works for me. i either stay put or move on by the 3rd try. i can't imagine any product being worth the frustration of failing to find one i can live with after six tries.

maybe you should go into quality control for verizon. we'd all have perfect phones. ha!

If there was another phone I would be ok with using for 2 years, I would part ways. I love the phone, and it's not my fault Samsung's quality control is horrible and I can't get a normally functioning phone.

Yeah, well, I don't think it's acceptable for a phone to drop voice and data frequently. If it were just data, fine whatever. But if I can't make a phone call or send an SMS that's unacceptable. I hope it's just a software thing, but it seems awfully fishy that the other ones that were doing this were also made on 12/23 and had the same symptoms. And the one I just swapped out did this once in 6 days vs. 3 times in a period of 3 hours today on this one.

this is a very nice phone and most people aren't having the issues you are (or maybe just not to the extent of needing to get replacements) but imo it's not good enough to put up with six duds looking for the perfect one. good luck and more power to you.

Yes, it is a very nice phone and I KNOW there are phones with nice screens (like this one). I also KNOW there are phones with operational radios (signal "issues" aside, I'm talking about a radio that doesn't drop voice+data 15 times a day). Is it too much to ask for one with both? Either I am the unluckiest person alive or there are a lot of people out there willing to put up with hardware defects.

So you're saying you would just "live with it" if your phone lost data+voice 15 times a day? That's an acceptable thing to you on a phone that costs $300 + 2yr contract?

based on your standard my screen might not pass your snuff test, looks great to me though. how do you even capture voice data being dropped 15 times a day? you're not actually testing and recording this manually on a daily basis, are you? that said, i may have had a signal go out a few times since i got the phone but it's been few and far between that i can think of.

like i said, maybe other people's issues don't rise to the point of needing to return it. i don't think i've ever owned any phone that was completely perfect. this one is right near the top by my standards though.

heck no! that's what has me confused with your process though...i would have moved on long ago if i were having the issues you've had. or i would have just gone right back to my good ol faithful thunderbolt and waited for something else.

I am rooted and was able to correlate a particular debug message that is sent to the radio log (logcat -b radio). I can tell exactly when it goes down now by looking at the radio logs. I know voice drops too because the times I have actually caught the phone doing it, if I try to make a call it says "no mobile network" or something like that. So it does affect both voice and data.

No phone is perfect. I'm just not willing to just accept a phone with a hardware defect. There is no other phone I want. I want a Nexus and the freedom and openness that it comes with. Unless VZW is getting another Nexus device soon (hint: they're not), then this is really the only phone out there I would consider using for 2 years.

Yes, it's extremely frustrating to be swapping phones so much, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the phone's screen to look proper nor is it unreasonable to expect the radio to remain functional. I'm not making any friends at Verizon, Costco (and probably Samsung), but the fact of the matter is, this is the only phone I'm interested in and if I have to swap it out until I get one that works properly, I'll do it. If Samsung would admit to the problem, I could send it in and have it fixed, but I don't have any confidence they would do anything to it but make it worse or break something else that was working fine.

I'm still hoping it's a software problem, but the fact that the one I swapped did this once in 6 days and this one has done it 3 times in 1.5 days makes me think I got another one with a problem radio. :(

Still using my launch day Nexus. The 1st one my biz rep had in his hands. Watched him unbox it and drool all over it, before handing it over to me (forever unclean!!)

Not having any of the major issues reported here.

After reading some of the other replies, I count myself lucky that I'm still on my first, and what I hope will be my only, Nexus. I also ordered online, since I had a good experience doing the same for my OG Droid a couple years ago, and even further back for my LG Env.

ok got my last one about an hour ago.

So far everything seems to work great, screen looks better overall, no more purples at all even at low brightness. Also that horrible tint with moving phone just slightly is gone.

Reception seems to be good, phone seems to work.

The one thing I noticed is the phone is definitely not as bright as my last one, even at full it not super bright. In some ways that ok, because does not hurt my eyes as much. What I do notice is white is not as white as previous phones. I guess it warmer in temp?

I am fine with phone and finally happy now, this is my 4th and done exchanging. Interesting note I went to register @ samsung, and it was Manufactured Jan 1/2012, and came with HW revision 10. Maybe a new batch finally fixed a lot of issues.

Went to Verizon today to see if they could help me since I had ordered through Radioshack.com and surprisingly enough they were able to help me so I should get GNex #2 tomorrow.

Good luck! Glad you were able to get some help at VZW.

Getting #4 shipped now. Hopefully I'll be able to exchange my batteries too. Both my extended and standard battery give off a really nasty smell. If it's the phone, then hopefully that'll be fixed with this awesome "like new" phone I'm getting. But either way the batteries are damaged if they emit any kind of smell. I have to go to the VZW store in Greensboro because I think they're getting sick of me in Winston-Salem.

Second. First went back the night I got it, microphone broke.

This one has been great except for the couple scratches I've somehow managed to put on the screen :( I don't know how I've done it, I baby this thing. One I can even feel. My OG Droid nor Droid X ever got a scratch and I dropped them repeatedly on concrete.

#2 Came in today and HOLY CRAP. I thought #1 had purple tinting. #2 is straight purple its awful. However the screen is a little brighter so I guess I can deal with it. We'll see how the radio holds up.

Is it purple only at low brightness? My last one had a purple-ish tint even at like 40% brightness on grays. It was kind of yellow/greenish on the left and right sides and purpleish down the middle.

Both, however, have grays that look purple at low brightness. Example:

- go into settings -> display -> brightness
- uncheck auto brightness and slide until the gray box turns purple. For me on this one it's about 10-15 %, whereas the last one was more like 25-30 % when it would turn purple.

As for the radio, despite dropping 3 times the 2nd day I had it, I have not dropped since *knock on wood*. So perhaps it WAS verizon issues:

- day 1 : no drops
- day 2 : 3 drops between about 2:15 and 4:45 pm
- day 2 from 4:45pm to now (day 5) : no drops

Hoping I don't see any more drops...but time will tell. Hopefully the radio in the one you got as a replacement holds up. BTW, what is the manufacture date of the one they sent you?

I start to see a little purple around 30% or so but it's not bad until about 10-15. I guess it's not all that bad it was more of just shock from comparing both screens side by side and realizing that the previous one had little to no purple. Manufacture date is 11/22 where as previous one was 11/26. Certified Like New Replacements ftl. I figure as long as the radio works I can deal with the slight screen issue.
