How many of you opted for visual voicemail?

Sitting here waiting on my Incredible to arrive, and I was just curious as to how many of you actually opted for the $2.99 charge to take advantage of the visual voicemail service offered by Verizon?

I like the convenience of not having to call my VM number and enter my pin when I receive a VM, but a part of me is saying it's not worth the charge.

I don't receive or make a lot of calls, as I mainly text and use data, so phone calls don't make up that great of a percentage of my actual use of the phone.

Is the service always accurate? When I had T Mobile, sometimes the VVM wouldn't work. I would miss a call and receive a VM but I would have to call the number to retrieve it.

I use youmail, works perfect and is free for visual voicemail. Plus it gets rid of the annoying verizon prompts every time someone listens to my greeting, they just hear your greeting and then a beep, no "press 1 for this and 4 for that crap"
 
Honestly, I'm not going to pay VZW for something Google Voice will do for me for free. If you can try to get a Google Voice invite, or do as others have done and buy one off of eBay. You won't have a reoccurring monthly fee and you'll get visual voicemail.

I've looked into both YouMail and GV. I actually requested a GV invite straight from Google many months ago, and still haven't gotten it lol.

Perhaps I will try youmail while I wait for the GV invite to arrive...Is it a different number than my own?

no...same number.that is why prefer youmail over google
 
+1 for YouMail. Been using it for a couple years and could not live without it. Haven't "listened" to a VM is sooooo long!

GV is similar, although it does require the user to jump thru a few hoops to link to your existing numbers, where YM is a snap.

Also, my customers get a kick out of how my VM knows their names!
 
Another +1 for YouMail it's great! One minor bug/issue with it is the notification icon when you have a new VM. It's gray....the same gray of the notification bar....so you can't really see it. Not a big deal for me and supposedly a fix/update should soon be on its way.

you dont need a new number for google voice. I have a google voice number but all calls that go to both numbers come up as visual voice (text translation and play on screen) I like the fact that is stores my voice mail as well. I do not know about "youmail" so i cannot compare.

I use GV here. Love it. I had my invite ready before I got my Incredible so I didn't have to worry about giving everyone my VZ number and then changing it.
 
I used my .edu email address to get a Google Voice invite. I use it for free text messaging and visual voicemail. So awesome! Seriously, if you can get your hands on a GV invite I don't know why anyone would pay for a text messaging plan or visual voicemail through Verizon.
 
I just installed youmail and am hopeful to eliminate the monthly charge to Verizon for their visual voicemail. So far I love the customization.

I feel real dumb for asking this, but I cannot figure out how to get free vvm from youmail. there is a free 7 message trial, but nothing long term... what am i missing?
 
+1 for Youmail and it's free app.

The only problem is it doesn't have free voice-text transcription like Google Voice. But from my experience, the transcription for either service is mostly garbage, and the simplicity of the visual voicemail app negates the need for transcription.

But honestly, I don't get that many voicemails. I despise them and think they are generally not needed in the age of easy emails and texting with smartphones.
 
I can't help you with all the ones everybody is talking about. But your question about Verizons Visual voice mail i can help. I've been using it for years on my WM Htc phones. I was AWFUL!!!!! it would take forever to load and it would keep re-opening if I didn't give it enough time to delete (without closing out of the app).

but on this phone it is amazing!!!!!! it opens in less than a second and closes just as fast. I wasn't going to get it because of my experiences with my past phones and now I couldn't live without it. I would pay $10 a month. I works flawlessly and amazing.

maybe the ones they are talking about are just as good. I can only tell you about the Verizon one. I will never get rid of it while I have this phone. 5+ stars *********

I *believe* the VVM service from YouMail is still free. The transcription service has never been and continues to not be free. That is what the trial refers to.

This was the case some time ago, but the PLUS service from YouMail is ridiculously accurate.

I have been very impressed on how it has evolved over the past couple of years, from "good" enough to figure out what the caller meant to DEAD ON (even with numbers which used to be a big issue).

So, with GV, you get text messaging and vvm, while Verizon charges for both?
