Help How much battery do you think I've got left?

Ok, first of all just to clarify, this thread is not meant to cause debates on battery life, how much your using your phone (or not), percentages of battery used by OS bug...., blah blah blah.

How much battery life do you reckon I've got left after 5hrs 15mins? (at time of writing...)

(Phone has not been used as I have been working, wifi is always connected, running 2.3.4 which has stronger wifi signal, though maybe uses a tad more battery.)

Only difference atm compared to any other day of usage (during work), is the fact that email sync is not switched on as I wanted to test with it off, to see the difference in battery drain.

So what do we reckon...? Guess your percentage...

P.S. This is a one time test. I'm not interested in how long I can make the battery last, or how little it does during normal usage. I am doing this just to see how much of a difference email sync causes in terms of drain as I believe it to cause more of a drain than wifi (which it surely shouldnt do)

If it's in good signal area and has basically been standing by with screen off, I'd say 90%, or maybe more.

IF signal strength is good.

This is the bit you wouldn't believe. Signal strength is always good for starters, wifi is always on.... Had email sync been on, you would have been about right :)

With email sync off, its totally different!! (compared to anything else ive tested) After 7hrs and 44mins im at 99%

Turn sync on and start using as normal - I bet it drops like a stone to 90% then levels out.

Or am I just a pessimist? ;)

I'm having no issues with my battery at all at the moment - and I'm used to the excellent battery in the ip4.

Something that does confuse me though:

On my iPhone, it knew when an app need gos and turned it on. It also tuned it off when you switched to another app (unless it needed it, as with tom-tom etc)

With the galaxy s, I have to switch it on manually and deactivate it afterwards?

This is with regards to saving battery and being efficient.

Level out? Not really.... Ive had the phone long enough to know how long the battery will last doing certain things. The idea of the test was to see what caused the biggest drain in sleep mode. Compared to wifi, bluetooth etc, its suprising how much sycn drains (suppose I do get a lot of emails mind)

Etiher way 1% over 7hrs is bloody good in my books :p

Yes mate. Mega impressed!

Weird, I always feel chuffed when I get to lunch, or dinner and the levels are good.

Geeks!

That sounds impressive but it makes me wonder whether it's even remotely accurate.

I'd be utterly astonished if you got 20 days use out of it - that really would be amazing but that 1% looks like a bug to me.

Ohh it wont last 20days thats for sure, but point is, with email sync off its TOTALLY different...

Im so far @ 20hrs @ 90% left :p

i left mine on last night with wifi on....it just flat lines, with a slow drop of about %5 over 10 hours. (not rooted, 2.3.3, KF4) wifi has never chewed my battery life.
but the second i play a bit of angry birds it drops baddy.
bare in mind this is my dud battery, yet to test on the new one.

Obviously playing games will. Though this topic was about the drain caused by email sycn. Through all my testing wifi is not much of a battery drainer.

1 day, 29 mins @ 89% left

SilverDroid what were ur setting in wifi...what was ur wifi sleep policy set to....and are u running data connectivity also...

"1 day, 29 mins @ 89% left".....was this based on, ur not using phone at all...........

It does seem a bit like leaving the car ticking over and saying I'll last a month between fill-ups.

Silver and his testing are just what we need to better understand how the os uses resources though.

ahh, missed that bit. i tried it out, wifi has no drain really no matter whats going on.
put auto sync on with 3 accounts to update as quick as possible. after 3 hours it went to %97.
sent some test emails to push it around, didnt make much difference.
(i swapped it through all network modes, auto on/off, and wifi as well)

cant be bothered to see how long it will go for. i allready got it back from the shop after waiting for a new battery and it had 6 days usage on the meter....but it sat there doing nothing so obviously it will go forever if unused no matter what settings are going on

i was paranoid about leaving alot of things on like wifi/sync/live wallpaper...but really they dont do me harm. only when i have the screen active playing around and games chew the most....and this is a confirmed faulty battery lol....cant wait for the new one :)

If you left my car ticking over... it wouldnt last that long lol

The point though was just to see what resources it would use compared to other things like wifi, bluetooth, etc etc.

If you have email sync switched on you'll notice your OS usage time is always high percentage wise. With it off though, its totally different. I'm sure in time they will sort this out though.

1d 13hrs @ 79% left (inc some phone calls and texts, but no gaming as per normal or it wouldnt be a fair test to see how much extra drainage there was)

I have tested the following (was in a dull training session)

7.00am - battery charged, wifi off, no running applications/sync
9.00am - started surfing internet checking fb, articles,
refreshing pages, surf here there
occasionally messaging, will off screen (not shut down) when
not surfing net (intermittent)
3.00pm - battery flat (approx)

So, on surfing net = 6 hours approx

You don't have a girlfriend, do you?

;)

lmao! I have been using the phone for calls and texts and a bit of web browsing :p

(Though no gaming or I couldnt compared against email sync being on, unless I timed the amount of time spent playing what games etc)

My email seems to sync perfectly, and even show on the phone before Gmail on my mac.

However, notifications from Google+, Facebook, Twitter etc all seem pretty hit and miss. I don't think Google+ has EVER notified me of anything unless I actually go into the app itself.
