how much data do you use?

I used this last month-

3767041 KB.

anyone explain how many GB i used.?

Oh and while checking my daughter had 16491 text messages last month, WTF..........

I use around 1G (at least I did when I was an ATT customer). I try to use wifi as much as possible mainly because it's much faster, and since I work for a wireless carrier I know how much it takes to get all of that crap working correctly.

Folks who were incorrectly assuming that Mobile Broadband caps applied to phones.

When was a BB user, I recall quite a few stories on Crackberry about folks who tethered getting eye opening bills and they fell back on the same lame excuse about the unlimited plan. Fine print that narrows marketing claims is nothing new.

While it is not capped, they will look for odd use patterns and if you can't explain that Playstation traffic or the multiple torrents that you downloaded, you will be SOL. Tiered pricing is coming because unlimited plans are not a viable option when a small segment of your customers takes it to an absurd level.

What it happening is the equivalent of winning free gas for a year on your motorcycle and expecting to be able to fill up your Hummer twice a week instead.

I must be doing it wrong. I don't think I've cracked 1 Gb in a single month yet. On the other hand, I'm on wireless at home when I do most of my intensive intertubing.

Right now I'm around 770 Mb, of course earlier in the month I was on work travel and may have downloaded a couple of "art films" for my entertainment.

I'm actually interested to see how the tiered plans shake out. I'd be happy with a lower priced 2-5 Gb cap.

On their website, Verizon now has a data estimating tool, similar to what AT&T put up when they went tiered...

You have to search for it but if you play around enough you will find it...

And the widget for the My Verizon app is a data usage indicator, complete with a color bar. I wonder what the other possible colors are for it?

Don't let these signs fool you, all you can eat internet is here to stay!

3.7 gb. And holy shit 16,000 messages is a lot... I'm on my phone a lot, and I usually only hit 6k.

For data, i'm up to 1.3gb this month

There's no finger wagging here, friend.

I know that when I exceed the speed limit there's a real chance that I will get a ticket. If I do, I will man up and pay the fine and move on. Do you think that those who tether without the proper plan would do the same if VZW billed them for their actual use? I can only imagine the whining and crying here if VZW billed them per the terms of their plan.

If it keeps my bill down over time, I'm all for it. :D

i remember back when i was on the crackberry forum, idk who told me to do this but it works, email customer service and ask them if the "unlimited plan" is really unlimited. The email i got from a CSR said that the plan was unlimited and that i can do what i want with my data plan. (or something along those lines) once i get home i will post the email. So if they want to try to slap me with a bill i have proof from a member of there own staff. it has worked before for others on the crackberry site. They fought and won.

Currently at 820mb. I use my home network when I can remember to and its rarely used when I'm at work.
Oh and cycle resets on the 8th.

Most of my data is over wifi so I'm only up to a measly 143.56MB since July 22.

... and 16,491 text messages in a month! That's 550 a day, 23 an hour, or one every 2 1/2 minutes! Un. Be. Lievable.

I was under the impression that even with the $29.99 unlimited data plan there was a 2GB "limit". And if you frequently went over that limit, Verizon would flag your account in order to keep an eye on those that Tether.

Am I missing something here?

I use 3G Watchdog to count my data usage for me, nice little 1x1 homescreen widget.

I have it set to start over the first of the month, as of today, 8/6 i'm at 337.54mbs

5gb "soft cap"...not 2

It's unlimited people, the caps were rumors started from EVO and iPhone users! :D

16000 messages? Does she text in her sleep?

People just got confused about the following:

Unlimited Data Web & Email for Smartphone Packages consists of UNLIMITED data via the actual handset...

Mobile Hotspot Package consists of 5GB Bandwidth limit for Legal Tethering per month.

Somewhere people have confused and mixed up the too.

Non legit tethering is not legal, i.e PDANet, EasyTether or Wifi Tethering for Rooters.

But verizon have NO WAY to tell that data is not just coming to your phone and staying there without actuality physically checking you handset for whats it's been doing, by then you would of already lost it or un-rooted and wiped everything back to default :0

So yeah , thats about it :P

Again, doesn't mean its not a risky thing to do, but I've used tethering via my Omnia and now incredible for around 2 and half years, and always goes way over 10gb a month, and I've never had a phone call about it yet.

Tethering has saved me looking for coffee shops to upload databases and sites on the road plenty of times :)

maybe I am miss-reading this-

Current Data Usage
TXT Messaging messages unlimited 7103 -- --
Unlimited M2M TXT messages unlimited 9361 -- --
PIX-FLIX Messaging messages unlimited 27 -- --

mine varies a lot. 1-4 GB

Hearing how people use so much and don't get harassed by verizon about it, I will probably be less careful when using wireless teether now.

More math, ready?

Assuming 6 hours of sleep/day, that's a message every two minutes for 18 hours per day.

What kind of phone does she have? That's a lot of typing

I'm glad to see these usage amount posted here. Last week we stayed at a hotel that charged 13 bucks a night for internet. I dieclined and used tether for the 3 days we were there. I'm up to 2.5 Gb of data use for the month. LOL! I thought I was doing something. Apparently not after seeing this thread.

While I would like to believe this, even if folks weren't tethering, we would see the same changes because at the end of the day, Verizon is a business, and no business strives to make the same profits every year. They strive for record profits and plan their business model accordingly.

Business 101.

Right, but why does VZW have the guts to do this now? Because AT&T did it. Why did AT&T do it? Because of people jailbreaking their phones and using stuff like 3G-Unrestrictor and Tethering to rack up huge data usage, drawing down their network. Verizon sees the same thing coming their way as they add more and more Android phones per day.

So, they are in it to make profits, but they have other more "transparent" to the customer ways of doing it. They only feel like doing this now because people pushed AT&T over the edge with that BS and no one really complained.

My usage is up to about 3GB a month now, but that's no tethering. Just Youtube and Pandora eating it up, mostly.
