Hello...

I'm getting tight with the internal memory on my EVO. I've culled the apps I'm not using and force-moved to the SD card what I've tested and comfortable with but I'm still tight on memory.

I originally installed the deodexed 2.3.3 ROM and I'm thinking I might not need the customization ability of that ROM. I understand the odexed footprint is smaller and was wondering what amount of memory I could recoup if I flash the odexed ROM?

i do not think that there is that much of a difference. it might be like 20-30mb but i never compared the two so do not know the actual difference. you should try an aosp rom. they are really small. or get a class 6 or higher card and partition it.

Given that...if I remember correctly...I only started with about 130(??) mb free after a wipe and install of the deodexed ROM, 20-30 mb is a nice gain.

Could you expand on the comment about partitioning a card? I presume in that circumstance that most/all of the "internal-only" apps are installed on or run on the card partition? How is that different and/or better than force-moving apps to the SD card? I'm just not familiar with the partitioning option...

the apps2sd that froyo introduced only moves part of the app to the sd card. a lot of the app still remains on the phone. when you partition your card and use a2sd, the entire app is moved and symbolic link is created to trick the phone into thinking that the apps are on the phone rather then the card. but you need to have two things for it to work. you can get a rom that has a2sd built in or you have to run a script to move the apps, called darktremor a2sd.

also when you partition your card, it is recommended that you have a class6 or higher.

I've got QUITE a premium on my internal storage and I'll have to do a BUNCH of jockeying to do that!! Lastly, in a coincidental/semi-related way, I received an odd message this evening attempting to use Titanium to move an app to my SD card (NOT force-moving an app...dev implementing ability to move the app if I choose) and got a the following message in Titanium:

Sorry Android 2.2/Froyo only supports a maximum of 123 apps on the SD card

The problem is...I'm using a GINGERBREAD 2.3.3 STOCK ROM!!

Darktremors a2sd moves more than gingerbread does. the only thing that s left on the internal memory is a sym link that tricks the phone into thinking the appis on the phone. so a2sd is better then gingerbread. at the time that was written it did not work all of the time. it did have its bugs, but even though it is in beta, it should still work.

yes you can do that. i would use tb to back your apps then bit by bit install and move with dt.

you know not sure what support the new gingerbread roms have now. i actully think that most roms now have a2sd built in. i'm on mik3d b1 and i never had to use dt. i have 153 apps all on my card! and i still have 200 mb of internal memory left! of course i have a 16g class 10 card.

In the link I mentioned, there was a section that said "Gingerbread was better" but then further mention that Gingerbread (obviously) doesn't use a partition for its app2sd functionality. I was wondering WHY there a mention of Gingerbread being "better" but the post might have been referring to a comparison with Froyo...

NOOOOO they do not. never flash a rom that is not designed for your phone. it will seriously brick your phone. those are roms specfically for the desire. sure there are cm7 and miui but those are their version for the desire phone.

try mikg2.45. it has a2sd support and it is a great rom. but if you want to try a sense 3.0 goodness try mik3d. this rom is amazing!!!!!! i keep going back to it. and i have 153 apps all on my card with 200 mb still left in the internal memory. check it out.

Um....ah....I knew that!!! I was just asking for the OTHER people!! Actually, now that I think about it, was bit of a stupid question. Might have to do with the fact that most of the time I'm asking these questions is WAY past my bedtime!
