How often do you turn off your Droid

Of the things users can be worried about, I don't think you need to be concerned about "wearing out" your battery contacts. Secondly, I don't even know how an app would "simulate" a battery pull as power is transmitted through the phone because of the PHYSICAL interface of the battery to the phone. As for the door, I just got 3 of them from VZW. They cost nothing.

I turn mine off everyday from around 7-2pm, seeing as my school has something which makes cell phones get NO signal in the building. As soon as you walk out the doors I have full bars, or if I'm sitting next to a window. lol.
 
I only power cycle when the phone is freezing up or running dog slow. So, rarely.

Yes. You should only ever need to pull the battery if the phone is completely locked up and won't respond to the power button. I take it you're a former blackberry user.

Yup, as a former Blackberry owner, I was forced to get used to doing battery pulls very often due to memory leakage. Powering the phone off and then back on was not the same thing as physically pulling out the battery. There were several applications that "simulated" a battery pull by doing a "soft" reset. So yes, there are such things and it's good to know I won't need them.
 
How often do I power cycle? coming from a BB....my answer is "too often" with my Droid. But, I am running Sweeter Home 2 and a few other 3rd party apps that are not doing much for my stability it seems. I can't wait for this thing to get more stable because no way I am going back to vanilla android.

...having said that, i often think about going back to my BB cause I just want a good keyboard again. i cant type for shit on this thing :( but then I take notice of how much MORE I use this device than any other phone I have ever had and I think going back to the BB would give me a severe case of Droid withdrawls....

Have you checked out Swype? One of the things that excited me about the Droid was the keyboard. Now that I have Swype I only use the PK when I need to type in a user name or password.
 
Does this include all the times that my Droid has decided to do a random reboot on its own? If so, the answer is "More often than I would like."

If those don't count, maybe about once/twice a week or so due to freezing or functionality loss of some sort.

PS: I haven't rooted ... yet.

Yeah. tried swype, but its just not as good as being able to type with two thumbs. too slow.
 
about once a day since i got my extra battery. but just long enough to switch them. before i got it i only turned it off to root it. ppl r bitchin about a hard reset every week or two. my storm had to be reset every ****ing half hour just so it wouldn't freeze, i love my droid.

I love using swpe im using it right now to type this message its way faster for me to use this than the pk sometimes, like now.this only took me a hot second to type

I must have missed something important when I tried Swype. I uninstalled it. I use MobileWriter (graffiti) a lot.

One of the rules of the thumb is when you reset anything (coldboot) it clears the internal-mem, making the startup really fast. That's the only probable reason why it seems there's a sudden boost of speed with your droid.
 
The first day I turned it off then hooked it up to the charger and a minute later, it turned itself back on! I try to turn off the phone at least once a day. Verizon will tell you that this is a good practice to do anyway. I did it with my Voyager every day...Sometimes I would get updates on the phone when it was turned off. Here lately I have been having to turn the Droid off because certain things would lock up or won't open like some of my folders!

Same here. The first version that's starting to cause problems, or what Pete would not want to hear: bugs.
 
At least once a day to keep my Hotmail flowing. Sometimes more. Occasionally will pull the battery when off and on does not work.

To the person who complained about auto-rebooting.. I was having the same issue. Turns out the phone was not set up correctly at the Verizon store. Phone tech support helped me get into the settings and correct (some setting was 2 and needed to be 30412). I wish I could remember the exact setting that was wrong. I've had better luck with Verizon phone support vs. going into the store.
 
all the damn time. I'm always installing, uninstalling, change this, change that. I think my storm got me trained to do a restart. Its so quick on this phone that I do it just to make sure that I have any temp garbage cleared out.

it takes forever to reboot but that does refresh...App Killer (I downloaded the first one in Applications) is great for saving battery life and probably helps with processing.

My phone is constantly rebooting. Even when I try to turn it on, I have to hit the power button several times. Hold it in, let it go, hold it in again until it catches. I'm very frustrated! I deleted all but a few of the Market Apps that I had installed to see if this would correct the problem. Not! I'm at the point where I'm going to do a total reboot from scratch. Are these the types of issues you were having?
