How Rugged this phone is

So far iv used my phone in the shower as a radio, in the pool to record videos and take photos, the beach, in the sand. I have to say one of the coolest things iv done is put my phone in a pool underwater while playing music sound quality is really good under water lol. I like pushing my phone to the limits :P so far im impressed and I love it. Just thought Id like others to know what this phone can do, Just do it at your own risk.

p.s. One thing im working on is making a app to disable/enable touch with the tactile button so you can use the camera button better underwater. Im new to making apps but have a minor in computer science so we will see any help would be nice :D

I jumped off the roof into the pool with my friends. It broke... now I have to pay the insurance deductible. I tried calling Casio for help but it was no use. On your other point, the idea for an app to disable the screen is much needed, you can't take video going from above the water to under.

Just curious what you told casio and what did they say back. I'm pretty sure since you were jumping off a roof you've blown the milspec'd 1meter out of the so called water:rolleyes:. Still if you say you dropped it in the shallow end of the pool (under 1 meter) they'd be happy to replace it for you. Did casio ask you a barrage of questions regarding the incident or did they just tell you to stop jumping off your roof??

Well I didn't exactly tell them I jumped off the roof, just that I jumped in, but they said I could sent the phone to them and then wait approx. two weeks and possibly pay anywhere from 120 to full price for the phone depending on what they find. Since its my friends phone I just paid the insurance deductable for him and called it a day. On a side note the very night after I called them I saw a commercial for the phone with a guy jumping out of a helicopter or something like that with the phone into water...

No Verizon and Casio are not happy to replace it for you. When they see the pink on the battery they just assume that you abused it pass the mil spec. I put mine in a glass of water and watched bubbles come out of the speaker when mine went out; an obvious manufacturing defect since they say in writing and in their advertisements that it is tested to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. They don't ask questions, they just see the water damage indicator and walk away with an attitude. It's blatant false and misleading advertisment on Casios part if they don't take returns on the chin; otherwise don't advertise how tough it is.

i agree, they should make an exception in the case of waterproof phones. people were giving you crap on that other thread for doing yourself, and i thought that was ridiculous on their part. for instance, If someone went out and bought an underwater flashlight and they put it under water and it broke, that's not their fault, it's a manufacturing defect. so what if you put it in the water, the whole reason you bought the product was because you were told it was waterproof!!!

i work at a verizon store, and the information card for the commando spefically says waterproof. Not water resistant, WATERPROOF. not to mention the advertisements. this is another case of how Verizon's customer service has went downhill in the past year

I jumped in a pool with my original Droid. Of course it didn't survive, but it's the whole reason why I'm browsing the Commando forum. While it is the right phone for some, I'm glad to know I shouldn't be wasting my time.

This is my 4th mill spec Casio, iv put them all threw hell, from the washing machine to the hot tub. the red gaskets have never flaked or dry rotted, and never had a problem with water (other than distorted sound).
A good trick if your battery gets wet, paint the red tab with whiteout, it works great, they just look at it, they don't add water to try it out. Before Casio I went threw a bunch of phones.
I do know a biker that told his biker friends that his phone was shock proof, it didnt end well, they threw it into a brick wall till it fell apart

Watched a guy I work with intentionally drop his Commando on the floor and kick it accross the garage about 30' into a wall. Didnt hurt it, at all. He has anger issues.
