How the heck do I put the lid back on this thing?

I just got a brand new Dirt Devil Endura Express vacuum cleaner. It works great. The only problem is I cannot reassemble the dirt cup. It has a lid that is supposed to fit back on it but doesn't. It was hard to remove and now I'm stuck.

How do you put a Dirt Devil back together?
When looking down on top of the filter, you will see 2 tabs that stick outward. These 2 tabs face forward on the container surrounding the release button on the front of the container. When these tabs are lined up, the filter slides in easily. This was the info that helped me finally get the vacuum back together.

It's the red "cap" at the top. I don't see those two tabs, but maybe I'm looking at it wrong. Is there a brand that's cheap but works and doesn't have that stuff?I actually got a good photo this time but of course I'm not "allowed" to post it.

not allowed? what do you mean?

  • Once again it's that same old problem with file error. Sometimes it's easy to post a picture and sometimes it's impossible. I just looked at a video and I guess I should have just opened the trap door at the bottom. That doesn't help Humpty Dumpty.

Is there somebody who knows how to reassemble a Dirt Devil Power Stick? I can borrow that but it too has to be put together properly. I don't know if it's this one brand or my usual bad luck or both or what. I got a good shot of that but there's the posting (t)error again. Will somebody please, please fix that thing permanently and then we can put up pictures without fear.

Thanks, I tried that. They do indeed have videos but none for that particular model and I didn't see anything about reassembly. Maybe I should just take it back for a refund.

I found out how, and thank goodness for that helpline. Kaylin (?) explained that it's kind of a puzzle. There is a notch in the colorless dust cup and a tab on the light gray "cyclone" part that match up and then the red cap has a tab that sticks out, which goes right above the unlock picture on the sticker on the back of the dirt cup. Once that's in place, just twist left to lock it. If it can all be picked up by the red handle without coming apart, it's probably ok. Then there's the fun of sticking that whole assembly onto the main frame...

I've explained the solution multiple times. :) ETA: And now I've posted a handy-dandy tutorial!

Now that this glitch is more than a year old, its odds of getting fixed don't look too good. So use my workaround instead, and post all the images you want, like I do!

I vacuumed one room and went on to another. Shortly after that it shut off on its own. It felt hot and I decided to let it cool off for a while. I left it alone for hours. Just now I tried to switch it on but it's not working.

According to that girl on the helpline, the vac is just protecting itself. If it gets too hot, it shuts itself off FOR AS LONG AS 24 HOURS. I think that's too long, especially if it's going to be daily, but that's what I get for this dusty environment. Would a wet dry vac be better? How much would that cost? Is there a special one for fireplace ashes that might be best (not actually ashes)?
