Root how to change the boot animation

I use /data/local myself too.

well, after saying that, I've just gone and mod'd my load-splash screen (the one before the boot animation), and that required Eng S-Off (I only had Radio S-Off it turned out, and they're different)... and now I no longer have data/local. Back to the drawing board, searching for the standard bootanimation.zip again lol

Worked it out now. When you are browsing your system folders (i.e. adb shell <enter> ls <enter> ... that's L S in lower case)
you need to 'mount /<location>' (either mount /system or mount /data or whatever) in order to see what's truly on it, and be able to delete/replace the bootanimation.zip (among other things)

Once you're S-off, you need to use something like root explorer to get into data/local (or android mate - which is free) You can just drop the file in there while the phone is on. Other file explorers may not see it though.

heh - I'm still young enough to enjoy learning new computer languages, and this week it's Linux commands in Android phones... :P
Anyway, found the answer, per above edit

you can also use root explorer
1. Download "Root Explorer" from the android market.
2. Copy the bootanimation.zip to the root of your sdcard,
3. Using root explorer copy the bootanimation.zip to /data/local

i tried this
nothing happend
im rooted. not s-off, as it says its not required for hte boot animation
help please

There is no bootanimation.zip there unless you put it there.

That is not the standard location for the system bootanimation. It is an alternative location which SOME desire roms allow users to put their own in.

The other thing would be to download a flashable boot animation that flashes to system/media and substitute your own or use ADB as mentioned earlier

seems like the bootanimation.zip on my rom is in /system/customize/resourse
and its only read only
so i cant copy to there
so i need s-off?

...or use ADB whilst connected to pc in recovery....

Download Android SDK for windows from: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r06-windows.zip

The Android SDK should be extracted to the root of your C:\ drive. The folder structure should be C:\Android-sdk-windows\tools

Also put your bootanimation.zip on the root of C: (C:\bootanimation.zip)

• Boot the phone into recovery and connect the USB cable

• On your PC open Command prompt (Start>Run Type “cmd” [without the quotation marks] and press enter)

• In the black window type "cd\" and press enter

• Type "cd\android-sdk-windows\tools" and press enter

• Type "adb shell" and press enter

• Type "Mount /system" and press enter

• Type "exit" and press enter

• Type "adb push C:\bootanimation.zip
/system/customize/resourse/bootanimation.zip" and press enter

Thats it.

im using teppics - prerooted stock froyo rom
with a2SD+ only
seems the bootanimation was stored in system/customise/resourses
i checked in the rom and saw where the bootanimation.zip file was
and used that address
