Root How to disable that damn system write protection

Well right, & no I don't plan on using man. And ya somebody explained to me what a switcher is & does etc. & ya I should have read up a lil bit if I wanted to jump in here & start asking questions I suppose.

I guess the question to ask is this:

Will a program like ROEHSOFT RAM Expander (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.swapit.expander.de) work on this phone at all or is it a waste of $10?

The tester app that they have says "Yes", but I can't use other apps like App2SD that also require the ability to read or write to the microSD because they try to do everything to the emulated microSD in internal memory or give me a message that the manufacturer does not allow operation.

Will the Switcher allow such apps to gain that access? It looks to me like I should install the Switcher and run an app like this to help my ZMAX with a performance boost, is there another step that I'm missing?

All that is gonna do is make your SD card go bad a lot faster. As far as whether the switcher is needed or if the app will work I have no idea. 2 Gigs of ram is plenty in my opinion.

Maybe, but sometimes I can't even type because the memory usage is lagging out the keyboard. ANY keyboard, even stock. I've also had several times when the phone freezes up during use and if I don't shut off the screen it crashes and reboots--these happened even on unrooted stock.

I tweak things a little with Kernel Adiutor and Root Booster, but this is the third Android I've owned and rooted. The only one that doesn't want to do something supported by the OS and actually USE the microSD or move apps because of ZTE being weird.

It feels like an Ahab situation, like I can't let it go until it's working. I get kind of monomaniacal sometimes...

Well, Chief, it looks like it would have been a very bad idea for me to do that anyway: my memory card crapped out last night and from the look of my Jan 19th backup it was probably corrupt before I ever flashed the Switcher that was stored on it. That might explain some of my issues.

Samsung EVO class 10, ordered it last July and it barely lasted six months! Only time I've ever let a good sale tempt me away from SanDisk and I think it will be the last!

I thought about buying a Samsung memory card for my next phone; thank goodness I didn't. Still rocking my SanDisk 64gb class 10 of almost 5 years.

Idk I've had my Samsung PRO series 64GB card for over a year now with no issues. Maybe its because its the pro series which is one step above the evo series cards.

Maybe. I got a refund, and now I guess I need to look around for a new card. I had a SanDisk 32GB class 4, but a Samsung 32GB class 10 seemed like a pretty good deal for the money and it was... Well heck, it was https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IVPU786/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I wonder if it was a fake or just dumb luck? You expect crappy counterfeit stuff ON Amazon, but FROM Amazon...

Coincidentally, my product review was refused by Amazon. Probably for using that very phrase.

Looks like the real thing to me. But given what I've heard I wouldn't get a Samsung unless it is the pro series or better and I'd rather get sandisk from now on

I've never had a problem with any of my SanDisk cards on any of my devices, but is there a functional difference between the varieties (Pro, Ultra, etc.) or does it honestly matter as long as it's Class 10?

The transfer speeds, when the phone is connected to the laptop or PC, is on par if not faster than inserting the memory card adapter directly into the card slot of the cpu. Basically, it's just a way of categorizing different r/w speeds.

So... You're saying that I don't need to worry about Class 4 vs 10 on a phone or did I miss the point?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see now that class ratings are more variable than that. It does look like a SanDisk 32GB that I have my eye on is about the same price and faster: 80 vs ~50 on the crapped out EVO. I guess other ratings (SDHC, SDXC, etc) are geared towards devices with faster write speeds than my ZMAX and not really worth worrying about.

You should only factory reset after flashing the twrp & boot restore zip and rebooting recovery. Never factory reset when you have system rw and never reset from the settings menu.
My ZMAX has gotten bloated and I need to do a factory reset and start over. Two things cause me to pause:
1. I want to make sure I'm doing things in the right order and that I don't brick my phone.
2. I encrypted the phone and I'm not sure how that will impact the r/w processes during a reset through TWRP.
Can you advise the best (and safest) way to reset, even if it means going back to stock, unrooted and starting over?
Thanks for all your help and hard work on this device. It is greatly appreciated.

Boot into twrp, flash the restore zip for whatever ROM you are using then reboot recovery (again) and then you can do the reset from within TWRP. DO NOT USE THE FACTORY RESET OPTION IN THE SYSTEM SETTINGS APP!

Because your phone is encrypted you might have to format your data partition...I'm not sure though. I have never used encryption on any of my devices.

Worked like a charm!
