Root How to disable that damn system write protection

Bare with me as I try to explain. I would like to try the carbon 5.1 rom. I have carbon downloaded onto my phone, plus the switcher and restore files. I also have md5 downloaded and installed. Where do I want them installed? Can I boot into TWRP and install carbon? I have rooted a phone before, but this is new territory trying to use a different Rom. Do I need to use the switcher zip before I install the rom, or after? I appreciate all the help.

Don't worry about using switcher & restore zips. Just flash the ROM & gapps.
 
So I need to search for a gapps apk? And would I flash it after I factory reset from Twrp. I installed carbon and tried to boot up, but it just stayed on the image for 15 minutes so I restored my previous backup.

Tk gapps are good, but u want a flashable zip not apk, plus when I've flash a ROM once in awhile it does freeze one first load, I wait about 10 min, then I reboot and it works fine on second try
 
I was able to download the stock switcher and deleted alotof metroapps,but I lost a bunch of my contacts and now it says I can't mount system. And it looks as if I reset the complete phone. Please help

Well, if you are not on stock ROM, y would you use a switcher for stock, flash the restore zip for the ROM you had
 
I got it fixed. I was on stock rom. I didn't like the rom I had flashed. I am going to try and delete the apps in stock without messing with anything else.
 
I'm on CM RC6 with the switcher. Is it safe to encrypt or will that cause problems with TWRP? I know that it's bad juju to use the UI factory reset and I don't want to encrypt and not be able to wipe, or reset my phone via TWRP. I thought it best to ask before doing it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks! So, if I understand, I could encrypt and still do a full wipe via TWRP. Is that right?
Because I wouldn't mind it if I had to do a full wipe to fix a problem. I would just hate to have no way to do that, since I can't use the UI factory reset.
