rlaurin1 - how long did you leave the battery out?

Also, did you sign in with the same google account as before? Protected apps (as you know) are tied to the account...

Also, the desk app is in fact the stock 2.2 clock app.

I tried it again, leaving the battery out for 1 min and still the same result. I never had to sign in with the google account after the update. The only thing I can think to try is a factory reset, but I am holding of trying it for now.

kk, I went to the Verizon store. The update posted here apparently erased all information about my phone's unique identifier, they had to punch everything back in. I doubt it was this update, but my phone definitely failed today.

In the end though, guy fixed it...he saw I had Android 2.2 and was messing with it, all in all a cool guy.

Anyone else unable to use the NY times app and the Mario Live theme post updating to 2.2? They aren't even showing up in the market place for me :( Help, please!

I'm having the same problem. It's actually failing at "verifying current system". I'm non-root running 2.1

Blah.

I've downloaded the file 3 times from different mirrors.

Error:

Verifying update package
E:update.zip install blocked
Installation aborted.

Correction. I forgot to "allow the update". I'm past that problem now. I'm now getting an error while "verifying the current system". I'm non-root running 2.1

I should note that I was running the leaked 2.2 (yeah I know I should have left well enough alone) and did a restore to 2.1 non-root to run the update.

I have the Mario Live wallpaper installed and it works just fine. Did it reset you background when you flashed?

Just did the manual update and when i open the market i get Attention an error has occurred please try again later. Did i do something wrong?

I keep getting this message on my recovery screen as soon as it comes up,

E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command

Any ideas? I've tried downloading and reinstalling several times....

Thanks!

Ya, I really wish I'd been tipped off about this killing swype before I updated. That's a real bummer.

That's what we get for living on the bleeding edge though. I'm crying over losing Swype too. Should have known since it was a Beta. To make matters worse ShapeWriter is no longer on the Market! It's no Swype but I can't go back to tapping words out now. I'm probably going to pay for SlideIt (or whatever it's called) until Swype is available again.

Thanks to all involved for this thread! I've checked for system updates about 50 times since this weekend lol The speed improvements are undeniable and some of the new apps like the camera are an unexpected surprise. A little bummed about no Flash with this but I suppose they're waiting for the official release to put it on the Market. I'm off to play some more!

Oh and tethering worked like a CHAMP with my Ubuntu 10.04 install! So psyched, I get remove the hack I was using before (though it served me well).

I've been trying to update to 2.2 for the past couple hours. I installed sprecovery a month ago because it was part of rooting my droid but I never got any further than that. Now I have followed these directions every which way with no success. I just created an account hoping someone could help me. I'm having the same trouble everyone else is. I have stock 2.1 with sprecovery. I've downloaded the file multiple times and tried to install. After rebooting in sprecovery I get the main screen, go down to install and then click Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated).

Then comes
--Install from sdcard...
finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E:update.zip install blocked
Installation aborted.

Someone please help.

Thanks

Surely I didn't miss this...will this work on Droid X as well...if so, how do I install, I don't have a QWERTY to push X on?

WAIT dont do that, check your PM's

OK, this was a complete pain but I finally got it working. I was running the leaked 2.2 from a few months ago rooted. I use Linux, specifically Fedora 13, but the following should work on any Linux box (within reason):

1. Download sbf_flash:
OPTICALDELUSION: sbf_flash

2. Download stock 2.1u1 sbf. File name is VZW_A855_ESE81_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.03P_SW_UPDATE_02.sbf
md5 sum is 06e79f8d0810be281e8afbbd9be7442c
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

3. Boot your Droid into bootloader mode:
3-A : shut down
3-B: hold down d-pad up and Power until old school white text appears
3-C: Plug your phone in to the computer

4. Make sbf_flash executable and run it:
$ chmod a+x sbf_flash
$ sudo ./sbf_flash VZW_A855_ESE81_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.03P_SW_UPDATE_02.sbf

That should run, take a while, and reboot. Don't unplug or lose power. If something goes wrong google it, pray, whatever.

When the phone boots back up you'll be stock no-BS 2.1u1. Then download update.zip, reboot into recovery mode, apply the update, and your good.

oh my god i went to droid hell and back, saw your post and you saved my life thanks man

I am getting ready to install it on my phone using the forced method without a PC. I really really hope I don't screw anything up cause my phone doesn't have insurance :\

Flash 10.1 BETA should be available in the Market when 2.2 is officially pushed to Droid devices by Verizon/Motorola

I have been trying to download and update to Froyo but whenever I try and install the update.zip it gives me the error messages:
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I had 2.2 rooted but I unrooted it back to 2.1 stock in order to update to 2.2 again. Any ideas?

My thoughts are that maybe the stock image that I installed isn't allowing me update because the 2.2 update.zip thinks it isn't the stock 2.1. Again any ideas will be helpful.

I'm having the same problem. It's actually failing at "verifying current system". I'm non-root running 2.1

Blah.

no customizations, no root, nothing?

kk, I went to the Verizon store. The update posted here apparently erased all information about my phone's unique identifier, they had to punch everything back in. I doubt it was this update, but my phone definitely failed today.

Heh - some of them can be really kewl guys, if they know what they are talking about. I have been surprised at how much some of them actually know, unlike some other companies I have dealt with....

Dumb question #2.

I am running 2.2 after installing the official OTA version from Trident's links from this thread today. Does that mean I can download and use the above ROOT on my phone or am I missing something?

No, b/c the OTA update is nonrooted, meaning you'll need to root in order to flash - and if you root the OTA, then you're already running rooted 2.2 so what's the point of flashing a rooted 2.2 over a roted 2.2?

If you want 2.2 rooted, see http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/141116-guide-rooting-2-2-without-losing-app-data.html

I got 2.2 but where is Flash?

It is not in hte market b/c it is not officialy released. See http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/106331-so-where-can-i-get-official-flash-player.html

I've downloaded the file 3 times from different mirrors.

Hmmm... seems like a lot of folks reverting to non-rooted 2.1 are having this issue....

Just did the manual update and when i open the market i get Attention an error has occurred please try again later. Did i do something wrong?
Try waiting a bit - see if your connection was unstable. Also, the market servers are probably taxed pretty hard rigt now b/c of all the folks flashing the new update....

I keep getting this message on my recovery screen as soon as it comes up,

E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command

Any ideas? I've tried downloading and reinstalling several times....

Thanks!

Sounds like you need to reinstall the recovery b/c it is partially broken.

That's what we get for living on the bleeding edge though. I'm crying over losing Swype too. Should have known since it was a Beta. To make matters worse ShapeWriter is no longer on the Market! For the last time SWYPE WORKS ON 2.2!!!!!

If you are an official beta tester for Swype, you received an email that had an install app attached to it. Go to Settngs --> Applications --> and look for Swype - therre should be 2 of them, one Swype and one SwypeInstaller. Unsintall the one labeled Swype - do not uninstall SwypeInstaller. Now, go to your apps and run Swype Installer again.

Now you should have Swype installed for 2.2 and it will work again.

I've been trying to update to 2.2 for the past couple hours. I installed sprecovery a month ago because it was part of rooting my droid but I never got any further than that. You have to click Allow install first before you click Install...(deprecated)

Please read the steps carefully.

Surely I didn't miss this...will this work on Droid X as well...if so, how do I install, I don't have a QWERTY to push X on?

No, this is for the original DROID only. Not even the Milestone - CDMA DROIDs only.

I feel really ******ed that this is so difficult. I did as you said and hit allow first. this time it went further but got to verifying current system...

assert failed (a whole bunch of letters and numbers)
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted

I get to the part where I root the file. I hold X like it ways wile i turn off my phone. But thats all it does, turn off. It wont go to the recovery screen. What am i doing wrong. This seems like a pretty simple task and yet its not working. Ive tried like 10 times now. tips? Or im just dumb.

I tried it again, leaving the battery out for 1 min and still the same result. I never had to sign in with the google account after the update. The only thing I can think to try is a factory reset, but I am holding of trying it for now.

Factory reset didn't resolve the marketplace issue either. Guess I just have to wait and see.

FIVE HOME SCREENS! FINALLY! Ahem...I need to get out more. But I've been needing more real estate, and the last update didn't deliver it. I was able to find Adobe Showcase in the market, but when you get to their Web site, it says file not available, so that's Adobe's thing and not the update.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the dl/update advice; the only things not working right are Skype and the 3d music cube. The cube plays music, but I don't get the cube to spin around when I search.
