rlaurin1 - how long did you leave the battery out?
Also, did you sign in with the same google account as before? Protected apps (as you know) are tied to the account...
Also, the desk app is in fact the stock 2.2 clock app.
ok now it says assert failed apply patch check MTD boot with a bunch of numbers and
Dumb question #2.Pete has just released the official 2.2 with root

I'm having the same problem. It's actually failing at "verifying current system". I'm non-root running 2.1
Blah.
Anyone else unable to use the NY times app and the Mario Live theme post updating to 2.2? They aren't even showing up in the market place for meHelp, please!
Ya, I really wish I'd been tipped off about this killing swype before I updated. That's a real bummer.
That's what we get for living on the bleeding edge though. I'm crying over losing Swype too. Should have known since it was a Beta. To make matters worse ShapeWriter is no longer on the Market! It's no Swype but I can't go back to tapping words out now. I'm probably going to pay for SlideIt (or whatever it's called) until Swype is available again.
OK, this was a complete pain but I finally got it working. I was running the leaked 2.2 from a few months ago rooted. I use Linux, specifically Fedora 13, but the following should work on any Linux box (within reason):
1. Download sbf_flash:
OPTICALDELUSION: sbf_flash
2. Download stock 2.1u1 sbf. File name is VZW_A855_ESE81_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.03P_SW_UPDATE_02.sbf
md5 sum is 06e79f8d0810be281e8afbbd9be7442c
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
3. Boot your Droid into bootloader mode:
3-A : shut down
3-B: hold down d-pad up and Power until old school white text appears
3-C: Plug your phone in to the computer
4. Make sbf_flash executable and run it:
$ chmod a+x sbf_flash
$ sudo ./sbf_flash VZW_A855_ESE81_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.03P_SW_UPDATE_02.sbf
That should run, take a while, and reboot. Don't unplug or lose power. If something goes wrong google it, pray, whatever.
When the phone boots back up you'll be stock no-BS 2.1u1. Then download update.zip, reboot into recovery mode, apply the update, and your good.

kk, I went to the Verizon store. The update posted here apparently erased all information about my phone's unique identifier, they had to punch everything back in. I doubt it was this update, but my phone definitely failed today.
In the end though, guy fixed it...he saw I had Android 2.2 and was messing with it, all in all a cool guy.
Dumb question #2.
I am running 2.2 after installing the official OTA version from Trident's links from this thread today. Does that mean I can download and use the above ROOT on my phone or am I missing something?
I got 2.2 but where is Flash?
I've downloaded the file 3 times from different mirrors.
Error:

Correction. I forgot to "allow the update". I'm past that problem now. I'm now getting an error while "verifying the current system". I'm non-root running 2.1
I should note that I was running the leaked 2.2 (yeah I know I should have left well enough alone) and did a restore to 2.1 non-root to run the update.
Try waiting a bit - see if your connection was unstable. Also, the market servers are probably taxed pretty hard rigt now b/c of all the folks flashing the new update....Just did the manual update and when i open the market i get Attention an error has occurred please try again later. Did i do something wrong?
I keep getting this message on my recovery screen as soon as it comes up,
E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command
Any ideas? I've tried downloading and reinstalling several times....
Thanks!

Thanks to all involved for this thread! I've checked for system updates about 50 times since this weekend lol The speed improvements are undeniable and some of the new apps like the camera are an unexpected surprise. A little bummed about no Flash with this but I suppose they're waiting for the official release to put it on the Market. I'm off to play some more!
Oh and tethering worked like a CHAMP with my Ubuntu 10.04 install! So psyched, I get remove the hack I was using before (though it served me well).
I've been trying to update to 2.2 for the past couple hours. I installed sprecovery a month ago because it was part of rooting my droid but I never got any further than that. Now I have followed these directions every which way with no success. I just created an account hoping someone could help me. I'm having the same trouble everyone else is. I have stock 2.1 with sprecovery. I've downloaded the file multiple times and tried to install. After rebooting in sprecovery I get the main screen, go down to install and then click Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated).
Then comes
--Install from sdcard...
finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E:update.zip install blocked
Installation aborted.
Someone please help.
Thanks
Surely I didn't miss this...will this work on Droid X as well...if so, how do I install, I don't have a QWERTY to push X on?
I tried it again, leaving the battery out for 1 min and still the same result. I never had to sign in with the google account after the update. The only thing I can think to try is a factory reset, but I am holding of trying it for now.
