[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

Ok i'm trying to help you and it seem that you still don't understand..

Everything on this thread is ONLY FOR THE DROID (D1)...

For you to install or update a Droid X, is completely different!!

You are not trying very hard to help when you display that sort of an attitude.
My question above was my very first post anywhere on this board.

I got my answer elsewhere in this forum and delivered nicely, thank you.

I got directed to a Droid X section of this board and found the basic info after reading more of this thread. I will keep my eyes open as I've been advised to expect a solution at some point and it's likely being worked on now. Thank you Trident and others.
Great set of instructions and thread here.

Great set of instructions and thread here.

I will apologize for showing a short temper but i did direct you to the correct thread, the first time you ask
Does this work on the Droid X?
and i replayed
If you read the first page of this thread, you would know that this thread of Installing Android 2.2 Froyo is only for The Droid (D1).

You might want to check out this thread: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-x/ about anything related to the Droid X.

and again im sorry if i showed attitude, i'm simply trying to Help.

In addition I get a long pause going to and from home (painfully slow).

Only strong positive I've noticed is faster browsing.

Hopefully OTA update will correct.

Which FroYo? The OTA or a custom ROM? If the OTA, yes, all FroYo builds prior to FRG22 had an issue with the new stagefright 'enhanced' codec in the phone -FRG22 finally fixes that. However, that should not be causing issues with skipping, nor should it interfere with the controls -that shold have remained the same. have you rooted your phone before, or used an alternate ROM before?
The forced update at the beginning of this thread. Nothing fancy, no rooting or custom ROMs. I suppose the control issue could be Slackers problem but the skipping (not really skipping but pausing as the audio continues where it was stopped) is across all streaming audio programs including visual voicemail.

frowny face :( I have usb tethering???, what about wireless!!

Yeah i was sad when i read there was not going to be wireless tethering..
I read somewhere, that Verizon side it is because it does not have the chipset for it and support for it. I don't understand because i rooted it and install the wireless tethering ROM and it work great..

and so you know... I am not ryanmp1986.
I had not seen his question or your answer before I asked.

I thought I had this all figured out and now after reading the past couple of pages I am totally confused.

I thought that if we downloaded the DEODEXED version FRG22 we could install it the same way as FRG01B as long as we are not rooted???

I have downloaded the 74.7MB file, but have yet to install...better to wait for a better version?

I'm beginning to think that forcing FRG01B was not a good idea. Anyone that has FRG22 running into issues?

See the previous page and johnlgalt's instructions for how to update to FRG 22 without rooting (although you DO have to flash with RSD Lite). When you go to Peter Alonso's website, you want to use the ODEXED version of FRG22. I just followed John Galt's instructions (all 18 of them) and it worked to a T. It takes a few minutes if you don't have SPRecovery or RSD Lite, which I didn't because I'm not rooted either, but it definitely works. I'm currently running:

FRG22 by Pete
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-g874c292
android-build@apa26#1

I did the 2.2 update on my Motorola Droid - worked great! Thank you!! Still not able to get the bluetooth voice dialing to work with my Motorola T505. It pairs fine but nothing happens when you press the action button on the T505. Just wondering if it might be a compatibility issue. I've unpaired and repaired the phone with the T505 but still no luck.

Any advice or info would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
John B.

I have read this entire thread (and most of several related threads), but I'm still a bit confused. Appreciate continued patience. I installed FRG01B on Friday using the instructions - installation went without a hitch. After rebooting, the phone was initially slow and jerky, but overcame that after a few minutes. Now my phone just seems to be the same speed as it was before. No big performance improvement. My questions are --

Any consensus on forcing an upgrade to FRG22? (Is it definitely better - I haven't seen much in the way of user reports.)

If I'm not experiencing frustrating slowness as others reported, is it better to just go ahead and wait for Verizon to send me an OTA update? (My lack of patience of course already demonstrated by my forcing FRG01B.)

Will I get an update to FRG22 if I already forced FRG01B? (I believe the answer is "yes" based on some musings I've read in this forum; just want to make sure no one thinks the answer is "no.")

And finally, if I do decide to go for FRG22, is the latest and greatest version (for nonrooted FRG01B'rs) the one on Peter Alfonso's website (noted a few posts up)?

Again, for anyone who dives in to answer this, I appreciate the continued patience and support. There has been so much back and forth, I figure that the answers to my questions may also benefit other nubes like me.

Ok, so...... i didn't do all my research on this since i got super excited to see all this but anyway here is the problem. I got the update and did all the things in step to by using Astro, but.... This system is to much on my battery and i think it would be best if i just went back to stocked 2.1. Now i have no idea how to go about this especially since i didnt back up my files... so i guess my question is...... am i screwed or is there a way to get me back to stocked 2.1 so i can just wait for the regular update?

I tried the phone only method yesterday on my stock droid 2.1. it worked flawlessly. No issues so far. A special thanks to all who put this together!!!

I'm sorry guys, but I am completely at a loss as to what to do. I returned my Droid to the 2.1 update-1 stock image via RSDLite, and I've downloaded the 2.2 file mirrored here more than 4 different times as requested in the original post, and I still get the error that everyone is saying should simply require a redownload of the original file. Unless it requires 5+ downloads to get the 'good' version of the .zip file, then it ain't the file that's the problem.
Add a question mark and a few random numbers after the filename to force the server to give you a new copy. I.E.: http://something.com/update.zip?546

Thanks for clearing that part up, but I'm still confused as to which file to use for the update.zip. There are 2 from Peter Alfonso's website that are "Stock System Files" labeled as FRG01B and FRG22 (Odexed and DeOdexed), and there are 2 listed under OTA updates labeled as FRG01B (from ESE81 and Master OTA). Which one should I use?

Thanks again!

Master is the better one, as it does not care what you ahve on your phone before, and so you can skip the whole RSDLite step if you are already on any pre-2.2 ROM.

Which post number? You have a bunch on this thread and I want to find the right one.

I really appreciate it. I'm dying for some froyo. Can't keep hitting system update and seeing the God awful Your system is currently up to date. Lying ass phone.

Not a post, a thread - my apologies, I thought I had linked it.

Hello...I was excited to see your posting and turned my bar scanner on immediately...problem is I couldn't find the downloads afterwards...they are still in the bar code reader of camera...can't figure out how to retrieve them?
Jeff

I assume you used browser to get the files? In that case, look in the \download folder on the SDCard, or the download folder of your browser if you use a different browser.

I used to instructions for the phone, and it works! The only thing, is it still takes a moment to load the icons on the home screens. Also, pretty much everything is slow, or unresponsive. Almost everything has had to force close so far. I'm hoping another soft reset, or battery pull will help.

After two soft resets, and a battery pull, things are a bit better, but almost all my ringtones, and notification tones are gone. Or at least, not selectable for ringtone, or notification tone...

Do a factory reset and then let is reinstall all your apps, and manually redo your settings. Trust me - even though this is an 'update' enough has changed in the OS that reinstalling is a much better way to go.

johnlgalt.

I followed the instructions and downloaded the three items to revert back to stock 2.1. The only problem is the device STILL boots into sprecovery and rsdlite is not recognizing it. I'm ready to reset it but feel like it may mess it up if I press start with no phone recognized in rsdlite.

You should not be booting into recovery you should be booting into the bootloader - you're to press the up direction on the D-Pad not X. You should get a black screen with white text on it, somewhere saying Bootloader, and after you connect the USB cable the Interface section changes to the word USB....

Anyone got an idea how to have rsdlite recognize my phone if I'm unable to get to recovery mode because of sprecovery? All I need to do is flash 2.1 and then load froyo.

sooooo close.

Your phone has to be in the bootloader. You have to have the USB Cable select.

Once you see the phone listed as a device in the section below, click it - that is how you select the device.

This step took me a good 20 minutes the first time I tried it b/c I didn't know what to do next, either.

I have seen this question posed, but do not remember seeing an answer. If the manual update is the official, will we receive notification of any updates if we did the manual installation? Great instructions by the way. I have had few problems to speak of that a battery pull early on did not rectify. I would agree that Pandora is lacking in quality now. Also had a problem first time I used the camera that mucked up the entire phone until I did a battery pull. Otherwise seems pretty good. Thanks to anyone who can answer my question on this. Personally I love chrome to phone. Do not like the stock dock and went back to Launcher Pro.

Any future updates, yes.

Yes, you can. The Guide that Trident posted at the beginning works - except you already have to be running 2.2 in order to do it.

Does Flash 10.1 come with the manual download of 2.2?

Also after downloading Froyo how can you tell if you have Flash?

You do notget Flash with this ROM. You have to manually download it because it is still in beta (Beta 3 as of right now). Here is a link to a thread that has the info you need:

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/106331-so-where-can-i-get-official-flash-player.html

Also, please read the entire thread, as this questions has been answered at least 3 times (twice by me alone).

That's fine.. apology accepted
and so you know... I am not ryanmp1986.
I had not seen his question or your answer before I asked.

Wow dude i'm even more sorry i lost it there.. My deep apologise..

I will be sure to re-read my post next time. no hard feeling? :)

ok I am an idiot or my phone is stupid.

I downloaded just fine but when I try to move the file in astro it will not let me no matter how I try. I just updated astro today so maybe it is acting a little screwy. I try to copy/move, anything else I can in any combination but it will not let me! Driving me insane!

Anyone else have this problem? Solution without a cable? I dont have one right now

Ok I finally found what the problem is. I was trying to paste in the "root" folder not the SD card base. Thread owner you might want to make that distinction. Might save us idiots some heartache

HE did:

Move the update.zip file to the root of your SD card:

not trying to be an arse, it's just that 90% of user error when using the guide is reading too fast and not reading carefully.

Trust me, you're not the first, and you're not the last that will try that. just have yourself a good laugh, do a little *SMH* and hope that the next person to do it sees your post and then does their own *SMH*
