[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

Wow, finally, Thank You :)
I'm new to the forums so I could post in this thread. And am also new to Smartphones, the Motorola Droid is the first one I have ever owned. Oh, and I've only owned it for a couple weeks since this Sunday the 15th. It's kinda a lot like Linux which I have previous experience in so the change wasn't very hard for me.
But am knowledgeable about computers so I was able to figure this out with the helpful step by step instructions.
Just had to create an account to say thank you :)
I decided to wait until the 18th to do the official Verizon way. The 18th came and went and never got a notification to upgrade, kinda ticked me off being a paying customer and all...anyways...so I went ahaid and Downloaded link number 9.
It was a fast download and installed fast.
My only question is about Adobe Flash Player, or therefor for where is it???
And I can't download it from Adobe, Google, or the Marketplace???
If there's no way to do it manually and have to wait for the update it could take until November or maybe even longer...
But thanks a lot for the Update :) Oh and I've noticed that Version 2.2 is really slow to do things at first, but generally after the 1st-3rd time it's way faster lol.

just forced update on my wifes motodroid...went pretty smooth used the first link (my droid does). Has build FRG01B. but didnt install flash? this happen to anyone else?...can she get it or have to wait for OTA?

It's doesn't pre-install Flash. You have to download and install. It's not in the Market yet but is supposed to be soon. You can do a quick search on this forum and find it if you want it. It's available.

Wow thanks a lot :)
Got it installed and works great :)
It kinda sucks that some of the websites can only be used with mobile versions. Am also trying to figure out still what are the "must have" apps lol.
I thought from the way it sounded that adobe flash player was kinda supposed to come pre-installed, but that sounded too easy lol.
Also does anybody know of Google Chrome coming to Froyo?

Many web sites will push you to the "mobile" version, but will also have a button that says something like "view full site" or "view classic site".

I don't think anyone ever officially said that Flash would come integrated into all flavors of android 2.2; they're certainly shipping it pre-installed on the new hardware that comes with 2.2. The plan is to offer it in the market, and probably send us some kind of feature notification inside the market that it's there, once we're all up on 2.2. That's what I would do if I ran the product management group; even 4.3MB x 2 million handsets is a lot of bandwidth to consume for a good percent of the people that may never want/use Flash.

I already posted the link to the .apk...

Then I shall thank you. You have been Thanked!

Hopefully others will see either of those two and be able to easily get the official release. The only other thing about appbrain and fast web installer is that it works for all free apps.

Anyways, thanks.

Had 2.1 never rooted. Updated using location 1 and installation went good on my droid. Does run faster and boots quicker. installed Flash 10.1 and it works great. Very happy with 2.2 after update i noticed double icons in my folders. i deleted some but after another reboot it took the doubles out and had to replace some of the ones i deleted. if you notice double icons try to reboot first and let us know if that cured it before you start to delete. I did notice on handcent that my tones were no longer listed as a selection. there still on my sd card. i used ringdroid to make them again and handcent notices the newly created ones. go figure. a little inconvenience but whatever. Saw tethering option in settings. haven't tried it yet but will let everyone know. Still exploring the changes will keep you updated.

This may have been covered in an earlier reply but since this thread hos gotten so LONG I couldn't find the answer in here so I thought I might just ask. I manual updated my Droid last week to 2.2 then rooted using FRG22 so I could use SetCPU. This morning I woke up and I get a notification for a System Update and the file is 76.9MB. Any advice on what I should do from here? Block it or let it go through?

If someone could solve at least one of these problems for me that would be great. I manually installed 2.1 using my Mac and when I get to the part that i try to apply the update.zip file in recovery mode the new "update.zip" file wont appear because that was the name of the last one so how do i make my phone show the new 2.2 update file and not 2.1?

If no one knows the answer to that then heres my other problem. When i try updating without using my computer and doing everything on the phone i also face a problem. I downloaded ASTRO and then a few of the update files provided. I find the file in ASTRO and copy it, but when i go to do the next step the option to PASTE is grayed and not available to choose so i cant continue.

Does anyone have a solution for either of these because my worry is that I'm not getting the OTA 2.2 because I manually installed 2.1 and I really want 2.2 lol. Thanks

PM Trident or OMJ and let them walk you through grabbing the update to see what exactly it is.

I am so glad I found this site.....I have been waiting for the OTA update from Verizon....but couldnt wait any longer. My wife got hers last week, and we both got our phones at the same time. The instructions worked like a charm. Thank you all for posting this up. Now I am off to explore all that this forum has to offer. ;)

So I can't seem to find any valid info on the swype keyboard. I am assuming it didn't come with this forced update. But I can't find anywhere to dl it. I read a few threads up that it was added to the apk on here but I just started on this site and can't seem to find it. I know there is supposed to be some cool changes and got most of em I think.. Kinda weird though, it seems like my screen isn't quite as responsive as it was on 2.1 (mostly when sliding from home screen to the others, or back) any ideas?

I have tried every download on this site including the one directly from Google. All the file sizes have been 45.2. Tried both methods through computer and via phone.
Here is what I get every time

E: can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- install from scdard...
finding update package...
verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

I have seen a few posts about the "e:signature verification failed" but nothing that mentions "e:failed to verify whole-file signature"

Never been rooted.
tried 8 times then did a factory reset and tried another 10 times.

Any ideas??????

I am getting this same message. If you find something that works, I would greatly appreciate a PM or email.

I have tried all of the remaining working links on this thread as well as the ones provided on Droid Life. I have received the OTA update twice and gotten nowhere with that either.

I fixed my issue by downgrading back to a version of 2.0. As soon as I booted after flashing 2.0 the update for 2.2 began to download.

I've read some things saying going from 2.0 to 2.2 is not advised or will not work correctly....anyone know specific issues or examples?

1st id like to say thanks to the people who managed to get the update but i need some help!!

ive had my droid/milestone since it came out and never did anything too it (everythings stock) when im trying to put it into recovery mode it just boots as normal.

I hold down the X, then power up till the M logo appears then let go of the power and it still boots as normal!!

any help is appreciated

EDIT: found another way to do it, instead of X i used the camera button and it worked!!!

now at the same problem of E: failed to verify whole-file signature, tried all the files and still not luck!!

Not sure is Flash player part of froyo? I earlier downloaded the app and appinstaller....not sure if I need it now.

Trident, thanks so much for the info, this old grandma updated her droid w/ your info, everything seem the same except the new little widget at the bottom for black n white icons...what's the purpose to see in bright daylight? phone and browser. I've messed w/ verizon and motorola a great portion of the day when I should have hung out w/ you :O) Cyn
