When I look in cwm at my backups they look like this:

1970-01-08.09.05.41
1970-01-11.05.27.38
1970-02-07.06.19.54
1970-02-18.02.22.08
1970-02-24.10.19.31
1970-02-25.09.32.23
1970-02-28.09.49.34
1970-03-06.09.15.29
1970-03-09.06.12.25
1970-03-13.07.59.47
1970-03-22.07.16.59
1970-03-31.01.56.17
1970-03-31.16.07.48
1970-04-05.21.33.08
1970-04-12.04.47.03

I can't tell whats what? Can someone help me identify my backups? I didn't see an option to name our backups at the time they are created...

Thats is how your backups will appear unless you rename them. I was told using Root Explorer works to rename the files without having a Md5sum mismatch. I have tried renaming them while connected to my laptop, using OI File Manager and have had no luck, so try Root Explorer and see if that allows you to successfully do so.

Is there a way to name them as you create the backup? Once a backup is created and put in the list I loose it. I might have to delete the onesI have, start over and be sure to rename them the way you suggested

TBH I dont know if there is a way to rename while in CWM. I just have fewer nandroids and have less to keep track of..lol Try using root explorer to rename one of yours and let me know if it works..lol

So after talking to Playful God to confirm this...there's no option to rename files while in CWM

When I first started mucking with CWM and rooting my phone I ran into this problem. I have tried the above mentioned (both with root explorer and re-naming by changing on the computer) and it caused a problem when I went to restore. Luckily I was able to resolve the issue through other methods w/o having a mismatch.

For the time being I have pretty much resorted to writing down the name of the file that's indicated as a back-up, inputting this into an excel spreadsheet on my PC and noting with WHAT the backed up images are for. Sure, it's kind of a PITA but I am usually at my PC when I flash a new ROM anyway so it works out in the end.

Ya, i only have 4 nandroids so it makes it easier to keep them straight. lol. I got broken out, black plague, stock v6, and eclipse. I know this aint the answer u wanna hear but...lol

You can actually rename the folder on your sd card for each backup with a file explorer and cwm will reflect the changes made. I do that often when I have a few backups from flashing new roms.

So go into the cwm folder and I believe it's under backups (I'm on my tablet that doesn't have cwm installed so I can't confirm).

Ya thats what ive tried to do and no dice for me at least..

I try to only keep 2 Nandroid backups on my phone (plus the V6 stock rooted), I move each one off to my pc as soon as I make it, and keep them in categorized folders, noting what Rom it is and the actual date of the backup.

That way I can move it back at any time. And I delete the oldest after making a new one (from the phone only), unless I am testing or checking out a new Rom or Rom version. Then I might have as many as eight Nandroid backups on my phone for up to a week... :-)

I found that if you preserve the 1969-10-xx. or whatever pops up, then the rest of the file name can be anything you want.

I do this with File Expert and all of my nandroids work fine.

theres a simple fix for the md5sum mismatch issues.

go in adb shell/terminal emulator
Code:
cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/NAMEOFBACKUPDIRHERE
rm nandroid.md5
md5sum * > nandroid.md5
bam done

Hey so d2a, i entered in all the code, but get error msg saying read only file system. What else do i need to enter?

Thanks man

I use ROM Manager to create my backups. It puts the proper date and allows you to enter anything else you might want.
I don't know how long the title can be but it works for me.

why not just rename them with a file explorer or hook your phone to your pc and rename them with your pc. But I use solid explorer to handle my phone files and renaming any file is easy.

I make a backup, flash a new rom and then rename the backup I made. It's a pain, but is a lot easier than weeding through a slew of backup files like tat.

Twrp is a lot better in this regard because you can set a backup name before you make it.

Ya I renamed nan using oi file mgr and get a md5sum mismatch so that's why I'm asking. I flashed cm10 and don't wanna reflash the .cab file again just to have stock nan...

The only mismatch error I've had was trying to restore stock ics now that I have the unlocked kernel. Renaming the folder of the rom shouldn't matter (which is what you see when you see the backup name in rom manager) ... I've done it before through file explorers.

.....why are you posting from 1969?
