Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

Ok this is very simple folks. I took a trip to the root forum for some info for us common folk.

This is a LEAKED release, therefore motorola has not officially pushed it to our devices yet.

To install is easy

First download the file update.zip

update.zip

Now

1: Move update.zip to your SD card, do not put it in any folders, leave it on the root of the SD card. Do not unzip it.

2:Turn off your phone

3:Boot your phone into recovery mode. Do this by holding the home button and power button at the same time, until the motorola logo appears.

4:Use camera zoom keys to scroll down to "Apply update.zip"

5:Reboot phone

6:Enjoy!

If you wish to revert back to 2.1, follow this link

For some reason its not working for me I have the file downloaded directly from my phone, placed in my sd card. I hold volume down and home button and power. Hit the search button to bring up my options and I select apply update.zip from sdcard and it goes through and then says installation aborted. Do I need the custom recovery that was just made?

Just a heads up...if this is anything like the Eris leaks we got before 2.1 (and I truly believe it is), then those who leak will not receive the official OTA from Verizon...which meant that leakers couldn't root for the longest time because the leak switched the boot loader.

You can always SBF back to out of the box 2.1.

Thanks OP, worked like a charm and now the phone runs smooth as glass. I benchmarked the CPU with several apps, and its running twice as fast as it was stock and even faster than my droid 1 that was overclocked to 1.3ghz and running froyo. Nice find. Thanks again.

I don't think there is a fix for that yet...

eck!!!
i wanna do this so bad...gonna wait till i get home tonight and see whats happening.

I downloaded it using my phone. Moved the file to the root directory using Astro. Restarted in recovery mode, and installed. Worked great and it didn't change any of my previous settings or wallpaper on my phone. I may do a factory reset anyway just because these OTA's usually have bugs that won't go away unless you start fresh.

I assume we can use the same flash beta the Droid can use, correct?

In answer to my own question, I installed the official 10.1 flash and it works great.

I read that your phone has to be stock android and have to remove any themes. Does this only apply to rooted phones or does this mean you have to remove launchers like launcherpro as well? Thanks.

This worked on my rooted X. All settings remained and had to update a few new settings that have been added for 2.2.

Do you have to remove all apps and widgets and will you have to restore any contacts and what not when doing this????
