Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

Lastly, as an academic question, what is it about this leak that allows us to install it without Root, Custom Recovery, or a ROM Manager? I am still trying to understand these terms better, but they seem to come up in any discussions of manual OS changes.

The only reason we need root/custom recovery/ROM manager is because the community wants to be able to flash ROMs to the phone that are not digitally signed by Motorola. The bootloader checks for the digital signature before it will flash the ROM.

Since this ROM is leaked, it's officially from Motorola and thus is digitally signed.

Good explanation. Thanks.

Also, is there currently a defined method of obtaining Root on this leaked 2.2 update, if you don't have Root at the time that you install it?

No go for me as well

Same thing!!! Please help?!?!?!?

Hit the search button when you get that screen. The magnifying glass, rightmost one. It'll bring you in after that.

I have the file in astro how do I move it to the sd card?

Try downloading with your computer, then plug your USB cable into your phone and drag the status bar down from the top of your phone and make sure it's in PC Mode. This will add the drive to Windows and you'll see a removable drive. This assumes you've already installed the Motorola 4.6.5 drivers.

What is the root of the SD card???

Root is the main area of your SD Card, ie. not inside any folder. It's the equivalent of your computer's "C" drive.

Try downloading to your computer and moving to the phone like I mentioned above.

Long press the file, edit, move. Up, up to sdcard. Long press in sdcard, edit, paste.

If you just have the file on your pc can you just copy and paste it to the sd card through the usb? No particular folder, right? Just copy and paste it in the sd card?
