How To: LG Ally USB Port Fix

Afteraffekt

Android Enthusiast
This is a video I created explaining the steps on how to fix/repair the loose USB cable on your phone. This WILL void your warranty, and is highly dangerous - but if you know what you are doing then you should be fine!

You will need:
1. Reading Glasses sized screw driver.
2. Mini, or very small needle nose pliers.
3. Small cup or dish to places screws in.
4. A painful LG Ally that likes to loose USB connection as it wants.

Read the entire walk through, and watch the entire video before ever attempting this fix. I take no responsibility for your phone or your actions. I have done this twice now to show it can be done - and so you know I'm serious about this guide!

Once again - I take NO responsibility for this! Do at your own risk! This is a last resort matter, and should only be done if warranty service is not available!

Video Here:: How To: Fix the loose LG Ally USB Port

Steps:

1) Gather the materials listed above.
2) Ensure you are in a clean and stable environment, and have at least an hour set aside to finish this!
3) Power off the phone.
4) Remove SD Card, battery cover and finally the battery.
5) Remove the 7 screws you can see on the back.
6) Gently peel the ESN Sticker to reveal the 8th and final screw.
7) Lightly press the ESN sticker down, but leave it enough to replace the screw later.
8) Snap the phone apart as demonstrated in the video, being gentle and patient.
9) Gently work the Keyboard out, and keep all materials together out of elbow range - try not to do what I did!
10) Manipulate the USB Port gently and in steps, doing it too much will stop the Plug from being able to go in, but if this happens just bend it back where it will.
11) Once the USB plug has a good connection it is recommended that you test the USB with your computer to see if it has a good connection, if not, repeat step 10-11, once it works, move to step 12.
12) Reassemble phone patiently as described in the video, making sure not to put too much pressure on the screen, and assuring that the buttons for Volume, and Camera align properly.
13) Replace the Keyboard, and snap the phone back together.
14) Replace screws & test the phone.
15) Success!

Once again I take no responsibility for damages! I'll happy try my best to assist and answer any questions!

Happy USB Connections!

I'm sure this will help many people in the future. It's great you took the time to do this. Especially seeing as how LG, as long as they've been making phones, just can't seem to fix the charging and USB port defects on nearly every phone they make.

Is this something I have to look forward too?

I would say it's a 50/50 chance that you will go through this. It depends a lot on how much you actually use the port and make sure you plug the charger and USB cable in completely straight. I've had to do this to two other LG phones before. Thankfully not my Ally yet.
