Root How To: Load Honeycomb, Android 3.0, on the Nook Color (uSD Method)

Oh and if you are looking for instructions on how to add Google Market after you load this ROM, click here

OK, So I'm in the process of doing all this. Seems pretty straight forward. Only part I have a problem with is the "Installing the Android Market on the Nook Color running Honeycomb:" portion. which involves putting in commands... I have no idea how to do that. Is there anyway someone can put up a video on it? Like exactly how to open the command window, enter the commands, whether spacing matters, if we press enter after each thing, etc... I don't know the first thing about commands... clearly

So much for straight forward... I put the autonooter 2 (for NC 1.0.1) on the sd card and booted up how it told me to... but it wont turn on! Then i took the sd card out and turned it on.. and it says "Welcome to LogicPD Zoom2"... ITS A PHONE!!!!??? WTF?

So you went from "I'm doing this" to Gingerbread? :D

Try my Phiremod post and see where that takes you. No sense going back to stock at this point.

The principle's the same, just use a newer rom file.

Honeycomb isn't for everyone. CM7 (and it's cousin Phiremod) is probably more stable for every day use.

I strongly agree with this. CM7 and Phiremod are top notch options for the NC. My kids have recent versions of Phiremod loaded and its fantastic! (I forget the version number...and don't feel like checking).

I haven't tried any recent HC builds and I don't really know what's available but GB is great.

I did everything exactly as instructed by the videos. Pretty sure I did everything right. I had the autonooted version running fine, accounts synced fine, formatted system, data, boot, then clicked install zip but it says "installation aborted"..... why!?!?!?! :(

I've had problems with formatting the boot partition on NC's. While I format the boot partition with every other device I've used...I've learned NOT to do it on the NC. I would restore your backup (hopefully you made one) and try again without formatting the boot partition.

Or it could just be a bad download...

I replaced the nookhoneycombv4.img.zip with the HC v4 emmc.zip and it installed perfectly. with the market and everything! just downloaded my first app.... i think tears of joy are on the way.... :,,D

Thanks, gents. Once I get my NC, I'll try PhireMod first. So my steps would be to to root with Autonooter then do the Phiremod load?

My instructions are for both nootered or not. Personally I prefer the one for not nootered where you use a CWR boot disk to install. Then you have a recovery disk laying around to repair your rom if it fails to boot down the road.

That's my problem with clockwork recovery on SD card...disk laying around means that disk will be lost! The only way I don't lose SD cards is if they are inserted into a device :)

Organization...not my best trait! LOL

Hewitts, It depends on the size of your card and the size of the image. I installed a honeycomb image that was built for a 4GB SD card on a 16 GB card. after it was up an running most of the space on the car was un-partitioned space, so I used EASEUS partition manager to expand the /SD partition to fill the rest of the space. The build I used was built by a guy called Deeper Blue over at Androidcentral.com. Follow the thread to install it is not for the faint of heart, but it was worth it- very stable and very cool, and the NC is not modified in any way. Of cours, after using HC, I will never use the Nook OS again. -Gordo

can we confirm that the second edition of deeper blue's HC found here at the below link is bootable from an SD card? it doesn't look like it to me, but i get lost in the dev jargon.

[ZIP][DEV][ROM] HC v4 eMMC 2nd ed. - Flashable ZIP {02/21/11} - xda-developers

YES - this latest image installs and boots from the SD card without rooting the NC. I recommend this method over rooting since it keeps the warranty and all original functions intact - all you have to do is take the SD card out & reboot. Get an SD card of class 6 or higher and you should have no problems. Honeycomb is cool and stable and you can download the B&N Nook app and load any books you already bought. You can also install the Kindle app and have the best of both worlds. If you buy an SD card over 4GB, be sure to use a partition manager to expand the /SD partition to fill the rest of the card past 4GB so you get all the space available on the card. Good luck! -Gordo
