Does anybody know how to make custom boot logo's ? My wife wants me to make her a boot logo of our kids, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, the first time I rebooted it was a nothing picture, the second time I had to boot into downloader mode to fix it, any help here would be great

Sweet man thanks I sent you a link with the PNG, thanks again man that's awesome of you to do for me & my wife

Well 2 things, 1st i tried to flash the guiding light theme as is like you suggested, no good, it got past the boot logo but no boot ani. just a black screen forever, tried to do a little file swapping but that yielded no results either. 2nd can you or Ziggy make my wife another boot logo, she wants one with both of our kids in the picture. So if it's cool can i send you some pictures to make into boot logo's. Thanks man. :D

Ok, Well I can probably do some switching around png files and such to make it work for cm7. And PM anytime if you want a boot logo. If I don't respond within like 30 mins just assume I'm at work or busy. Usually I'm here though.

I'm not to worried about bricking or bootlooping this phone, I've done some crazy sh*t to this phone & even worse things to my old triumph. I can recover the triumph from almost anything, just don't play around with the dev blocks & all will be ok. Nothing to fear except running out of beer lol. Just consider me your guys crash test dummy lol. :D:D

Good to know lol. Especially considering I can't test much on my MT anymore.

I've been playing with the guiding light theme in the framework-res-apk, i opened it up & did some file swapping, but as i've said i'm just getting my hands dirty in the development scene. So i'm winging it & teaching myself linux, I need help from someone who's willing to break it down in more detail on what files to swap, & isn't the updater script need to be changed along with the fingerprint (not sure if theme has fingerprint) If you can help me that wo:Duld be great.

If you just want to theme CM7 to look like guiding light, you can do that in windows. As you would just be messing with the framework-res.apk and stuff like that, not actually messing with the source. I use APK Mulit-Tool for my decompiling/compiling tasks and edit the .png's etc in photoshop.

Just pull everything from the .apk using a zip utility like 7zip or winrar. Then you can edit them to your heart's desire then replace them with 7zip or winrar. No worrying about ziping or signing or anything like that. But to get it to work pull the files from the theme and pull the files from whatever rom's framework res and replace the pngs in drawable-hdpi I believe. Or you can edit them using PS or Paint.net or even paint. Then replace the files and either put it in a roms zip and flash it or put it in /system/framework and reboot.

Which files in the framework-res-apk. ? I know that the framework -res-apk contains the themeing stuff so i'm not clear what to cut out, moto blur ? it's a whole apk file full of stuff too. Should i just swap the framework with a CM7 variant ?

Inside the framework-res.apk there is a folder call "res" inside that folder there is a folder called "drawable-hdpi" That is where all or most the png files are stored. You could try just taking the pngs from the themed framwork res and putting them in the cm7 one and replace all the files if it asks you then replace the folder in the framework-res.apk and try it out.

ok i'll start building the theme when i get home in like 30 min. Should i just inject these files right into CM7, & i'd assume that the blur crap has to go.

I would do like marc said and pull the .png's from the ROM you like and see how they work in CM7's framework-res.apk. You might need to do some more work than that, but it should give you a good start.

My best advice is to mess around with it all and get a feel for things. Then google some theming guides. Here are some that might help (some may not be, but I am linking them just in case):

Ok I'm on test zip #4 only 1 has booted i combined the framework-res.apk from CM7 & Guiding Light, It booted but no theme to speak of. Inside Guiding Light there are 2 folders META-INF, & system. Inside the system folder are 3 more folders app, framework, & media, I know how to intergrade the apps, & the media folder is just a boot ani. & sound file for boot. Inside the framework folder are 3 res files which each contain a bunch of PNG's, not sure if i add them all to framework or not, If i add all the 3 res files into the framework-res.apk it will not boot. Anybody got any advice for me ? I could use some help please. What about the updater-script ? Change it, Leave it ?

Here just replace your current framework-res.apk with this one and reboot. Tell me if it works. :D

Edit: use es file explorer with root enabled and system as RW. Copy it to /system/framework.

Will do I'll download it but do you want me to put it in CM7 or Guiding Light ? & just do a flat out swap of the framework-res.apk?

Just do a flat out swap. You're running cm7 right now right? If you are then just replace your current framework-res.apk and reboot.
