Root How to make my Ally less Laggy?

My Ally is very laggy. I am using the LG theme. Any themes, apps, etc. to make my ally faster and smoother?

Root it using the method on here or Super One Click(check my sig). If you are on 2.2.2 you can use Gingerbreak. Then flash Clockwork recovery, then Alternate recovery. Now Flash Velocity 1.1(check sig) and overclock from 748-806 Mhz.
 
dont just jump on the bandwagon and root your phone with a one click thing without DOING YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!! im tired of seeing people who rooted their phone without really understanding anything about what they are doing and coming on here shitting their pants asking ignorant questions because they're stuck in a bootloop and don't know any way into recovery except ROM manager. if you want to root your phone by all means more power to you. on a phone like the ally it will make a HUGE difference. but don't go one click root it and flash a custom ROM without any more in depth knowledge. that's asking for trouble.

so for the OP, if you want to root your phone, go into the all things root forum and do some reading, get on Google and look around. And know the first thing that happens to your phone when you root it is you VOID YOUR WARRANTY. do some research and if you still want to root it, more power to you and the people in the all things root forum will be a great help to you. i just think you ought to know a little more about what you're doing first.

and for you root users, don't be so quick to tell someone to one click root and flash a custom ROM. Im all for being able to root your phones but having people just one click root and flash a ROM is asking for trouble because they know NOTHING about the risks and how to troubleshoot. if you frequent the forums you know what I'm talking about. how often do you see posts from someone who has just made an account flipping out because they are stuck in a bootloop, something you guys know is usually an easy fix.

you sure you OC'd it?? you cant overclock without a custom kernel

well i dont expect that you know how to flash a ROMs, but i bet if you searched you could find the answer here or in all things root. the Sticky in all things root is outdated.

you could use the 2.2 root guide to get fastboot, and a custom recovery but that's up to you. also to get recovery to stick you have to remove /system/ect/install-recovery.sh
 
Assuming you are rooted...

1. Install ROM Manager and flash Clockwork Recovery, then flash Amon-ra recovery(you may have to flash multiple times to get it to stick)[important]
2. Download Velocity 1.1 and put it on the root of your SD card(no folders)
3. Boot into recovery(Hold down Call, Menu, and End while booting)
4. Go to Wipe menu, and wipe Data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache(VERY important)
5. Once everything is wiped, go to the Flash Menu, and Flash Velocity 1.1.zip
6. When done flashing, reboot and done

Sounds stock to me, not too sure though. And if you didnt flash a new kernel then you CANT overclock the stock kernel. Seeing as when you first said that you asked how to flash a ROM, i doubt you had alreadt flashed a kernel. So how did you overclock it???

SetCPU can underclock but not overclock the stock Ally Kernel.

I must say I agree with KOG's post #5 (permalink) SOC and Gingerbreak are nice tools to have but people need to try to take the time to at least read about them and know what they do before clicking away, and ADB and Fastboot are must have tools if your serious about getting the most from your Android phone.

Technically no but if you get it back to the stock ROM with no root access it's extremely difficult for them to tell that it ever was rooted. I've had my phone replaced under warranty twice and both times the phones replaced were rooted and had custom ROMs at some point in their life.

this is what i think you should do, go back to this post http://androidforums.com/lg-ally/358014-how-make-my-ally-less-laggy.html#post2842645 (Post 5) read the "To Root With SOC or not. . " thread. then consider using the 2.2 root guide i linked to there also. the root guide downgrade to 2.1 ZV6 and gives you fastboot access. then flashes stock rooted or velocity via fastboot. if you choose velocity you will need to DL the 1.1 zip. you may need to use LGNPST to downgrade.

All the info you need to get Velocity up and running is right here. i dont know why youy are looking for something EASIER, if you need someone to walk you through it because you cant do some reading of your own or this is all too complicated for you, then consider NOT rooting it. and again you NEED to do research before doing something like rooting your phone. unless you have money to blow if you make yourself a shiny paper weight. at some point something WILL go wrong. big or small its gonna happen and YOU need to know about your options to fix it and not just rely on the people here. be self sufficient. im in no way talking down about getting help here, some of these folks have saved my ass. im just sayin DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. well enough of this. i have a feeling this will fall on deaf ears.

and for going back to stock, once you root your warranty will always be gone. whether verizon knows that or not is a different story. my vibrator went out so i went stock and got a replacement, they actually spent a good while trying to prove it was rooted before issuing a replacement.

BUT you can bootloop it, get stuck without recovery and in that case you only have 3 options, (2 if you dont have fastboot) 1. take it to verizon and play stupid (wont work if you flashed a ALT splash or the Splash screens that come with velocity) 2. FASTBOOT :D 3. LGNPST

By the way, in post 5 (http://androidforums.com/lg-ally/358014-how-make-my-ally-less-laggy.html#post2842645) you said that "...Google is your best friend". I was not looking for something easier, I was just taking your advice and Google searched "how to flash velocity on lg ally" and that came up. So don't think that I was not reading anything you said and was looking on YouTube for answers instead of looking around here.
 
Another question. If I clear all user data and wipe cache, will that delete all my contacts, apps, messages, etc.? If that is the case I don't think it is worth it.
 
I meant more like research into what rooting will allow you to do and what could go wrong. But i did kind of jump the gun on that one and do appoligize if i came off as an ass as that was not my intention.

When you wipe everything, it will be like pulling a phone out of the box. But your contacts should be syncing with google so when you sign in they will all come back, i would double check and make sure. For your apps, i would download Titanium Backup, this allows you to backup apps and thier data so you wont lose saves games or settings (sometimes the backup can get corrupted but this is rare) i would advise buying TiBu Pro. If you only ever bought one paid app, if you have a rooted phone this should be it. It is without a doubt one of the most useful apps on my phone. But i do flash EVERYTHING. For your messages. Well theyre gone. I think you could use something like GoSMS to back them up but ive never felt the need to hang onto messages in the first place.

And since you can already back everything up, you have nothing to lose by downgrading and using the 2.2 root guide :)
 
Its fine. I can see why someone would get mad at me :D. Anyways, what is the difference between Titanium Backup free and pro?
 
Saw you post in all things root, i think i had mentionioned most of the sticky in there is outdate and for 2.1, also "we" dont use ROM manager or clockwork anymore. For just basic backup and restore of apps, the free version works fine. But restoring themm will take ALOT longer. The pro version comes with TONS more features. Download it to take a look.
 
Oh okay. By the way, when I go to recovery mode, I only get options to clear all data and clear cache. No Dalvik cache.
