Used it and worked like a charm thank you
Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.
Note: This feature may not be available in some browsers.
In Root Manager, long press on the app (in /system/app) and click on "permission"
How do i get to the app in root manager?
Thanks for this post. I struggled with this until I set the permissions... Hopefully I remembered the things I took off... We will see when the update arrives.
Well, I'm actually using Root Explorer and not Root Manager (I always get those two mixed up). In Root Explorer you just navigate to the app in question (e.g. Blockbuster.apk) in /system/app and long press on it. If you've made it to that step, then you've already moved the app from your sdcard to your /system/app folder, so I don't imagine you'd have any problems navigating or recognizing the app name.
i cant seem to figure out how to get the app from the sd card to the, system/app folder.
BTW. i have, root manager, explorer, and astro. all free versions. is there a diff one i need?
thanks
You need _Root_ Explorer, not Explorer. Well, you don't need it, but these instructions are based on it (though I think Root Manager operates similarly). In Root Explorer (which costs a few dollars), you navigate to your .apk, long press on it, and click Move. Then go to /system/app (make sure you tick the R/W button on the top right) and press the Paste button on the bottom. Then tick the R/O button on the top right, click the .apk you moved and install it, then change permissions as specified above.
If you can't spend the money on Root Explorer, you can do the same thing using ADB, though I can't help you with that. The thread about Reinstalling BackupAssistant may provide you those details.
WOW.. its real easy once my dumb ass get the right program!! thanks for all the help....

I used the instructions here to try to put system apps back on the droid x but when I move the file from the sd card to the system/app it does look like the androids it has a file icon. When i click on it to do the install all it does is open the folder... any ideas?
Yeah, Kindle shows up as a system app. The system dump posted above, and all of those I've seen, are from after the .604 update, so they all include the Kindle app. It's helpfully named "redding-7648-signed-zipped.apk". We should probably have a list which corresponds apks to apps, so people don't get confused. There were a number of apps I deleted but couldn't find until I just started installing all the apks in the system dump that weren't in my /system/app folder. For instance, Corporate Directory is MotoGAL.apk.

I downloaded root manager as you recommended and I did a test uninstall on skype.i downloaded it again from the link you provided and copied itinto the system/app folder and did an install from there.however I haven't been able to set permissions to be a system app.i have astro, titanium, and super manager and can t edit permissions.please help.
Does this not work with 2.2?
Im trying to reinstall Social Messaging, (want my contact pictures from facebook) and it works on installing it and then says "application not installed" with Done as the only option. This is with permissions set to RW-R--R--

I was having a similar issue installing the universal inbox. the way I solved it was by skipping the installation step. I completed every other step including changing the permissions and after I rebooted my phone all was well. Maybe that will help.I'm having the same problem. It appears the files that were copied have the wrong 'owner' and 'group' info. If you select the file properties (root explorer) they are listed as
Owner: system
Group: sdcard_rw
All the other files are listed as 'root' for owner and group. I believe this is why these apps wont installed. Any idea how this can be changed in root explorer, for us 'Linux challenged' people?![]()
