Root How To: Remove SenseUI and Enable JIT

i agree with Kevlar, Apps2sd is causing too much hassle. Ditch, and come rock out with JIT

Also, its a known issue that a2sd will shorten the life of your memory stick as well.

To each is there own. JrzDroid, maybe put something in your first post saying you if you use a2sd, this may not work for you.

Ok just for the heck of it I tried this ....understand I am at work so no ADB for me...just removed ROSIE thru root explorer

I am running Aloy snow a2sd (dark tremors 2.7), so i flashed JIT patch .... rebooted fairly quick, no reboot loop @ all

4.9 - 5.0 on Linpack , OC'd at 748 (phone limitations)

As for A2SD some of us need especially with a ROM as heavy as ALOYSIUS ...which IMO is one of the best out there.... seems to be why I am always running it, gotta love NANDROID as you can try everything with out jacking up your install ..

Thanks JRZdroid and droidkevlar ....

done=]
how can I get this thread stickied?

Im so dumb, i dont know how to get rid of apps2d haha

you have to partition your card thru recovery and change your swap and ext3 to 0 values ..... this will wipe your sd card clean and also any apps on a2sd

just formatting your card throught windows will not work cuz windows only recognizes the FAT32 portion thus only formatting that part of the card

with no ext2 or 3 partition a2sd will not function .... problem solved

i have found that Tapatalk and XDA don't seem to work with JIT ....seems like this is standard with JIT ...... is this normal ?

Yes. Something you should expect. Some apps may not work. Only ones I found were the ones you just mentioned. I never found a work around. But didnt use those apps that much so it wasnt a deal breaker for me.

Worked fine on evil Eris 3.0 until i flashed the JIT and the phone is stuck on the lock screen and keeps going black then back to lock screen.

is it bc i have a2sd?

I'm using Ivan's Eris Official 1.0 rom and had reboot loop with the JIT. Oh well. I was able to remove Sense following these instructions. Thanks! I love root!

You arent using apps2sd are you?

I don't think I am. I'm not even sure what that is. Is that where you install apps onto your SD card? If so, then I'm not. I haven't made any changes to where market installs the apps.

Heck, I don't even know what JIT is. What's the benefit of having JIT? All this is brand new to me and I'm actually proud of myself for being able to root yesterday and remove a few of the unwanted apps.

Edit: nevermind, just read a bit about JIT from another thread here. I'm happy with the current speed of my eris. My biggest concern has always been 1) stupid silent bug and 2) battery life.

wow, love to see what happening with this. Something I always wanted when I had my eris was to completely remove sense. The guys over at Xda are the shiz.

I installed JIT over over-clocked Tainted Vanilla a couple weeks ago, and at first everything seemed great--I was getting 5.1 Mflops on Linpack pretty consistently, and aside from the XDA app, everything seemed to work. From time to time an application would freeze and then force the phone to restart, but that was rare (every other day or so) and there didn't seem to be a pattern to it. But over time, the phone seemed to get less stable. For instance, (1) I would get an FC every time Gmail sync found new email and (2) Google Voice sync stopped working and (3) I lost the ability to do market updates. Eventually I figured out that the common thread was that all three operations updated the notification bar. And the Gmail app in particular seemed to fail as it tried to update the bar -- because it actually retrieved the incoming messages before FC'ing.

Eventually I backed out the JIT update and went back to plain old Tainted Vanilla, but I miss the JIT performance. Has anyone else noticed issues with the notification bar and JIT?

Using Tainted Vanilla1.4 Full (With the FB Sync patch).

Running my Eris @806MHz :D

MFLOPS: 4.611
Time: 1.17 Seconds
Norm Res: 3.36

Thanks for the JIT Walkthrough! This thing is ridiculouS!

Will removing sense UI remove such HTC apps like the dialer, contacts, ect? I would like to try JIT but would rather have these HTC capabilities

thanks,
CDV

I removed sense from Ivan's Official Eris 1.0 ROM and all it really did was remove the homescreen. The other apps remained the same, but of course I couldn't use the widgets for Favorites/Calendar/Bookmarks on the home screens. I replaced Sense with Launcherpro.

I don't know what would happen on other ROMs. I couldn't get JIT to work but I'll try again later on when I have some more time.

Good guide, planning on removing Sense now that i found ADW much better, and more responsive. I'll probably wait on installing JIT for now.

Does anyone happen to know if there is a list of HTC Widgets that are safe to remove along with Sense? If no sense, no use in having stuff in just to waste space.
